Jim McGuinness has book on the way

(Oldest Posts First)

I hear Jim McGuinness has a book ready for the xmas market,
I think he's missed a beat with the name 'Until Victory Always'

I think he should have gone with:
'My Defence - The Jim McG Story'
'My Blanket and Me'
'9-4-2 into 4-4-2 doesn't go - adapting GAA to soccer'

Anybody have any other bantery suggestions?

'Capital Demolition'

Not sure if a 50/50 win ratio makes a 'demolition'!

Should be a very interesting book though and one I'll defo get a look at.

Jim won an All-Ireland without the aid of the worst refeering decisions ever witnessed in Croke Park ( Dubs v Kerry ) and with limited resources in comparison to Gilroys side . Jim has had a tough life so it should be worth a look .

Jim McGuinness has performed miracles in Donegal.

He went up a hill, and came down Mount Errigal.

He is rumoured to have turned Lough Swilly water into McDaids Football Special.

Hope it's as good as I'm expecting, firmly believe what JmcG did to Donegal is the greatest turn around in a sports team I've ever seen, bear in mind I was in Crossmaglen that famous day they talked about in 'Jimmys winning matches'. Should be a great read.

Interesting sidenote...wonder what Kevin Cassidy will think of this book considering the circumstances of his exile.

5 years to the day today when we got tanked by Armagh in Crossmaglen and we hadn't won a match in Ulster in 4 years when he took over.

Aiming to reach our 5th Ulster final in a row on Saturday evening.

Says it all really.

Don't normally go for the sports books. Find they can be poor enough reading but i will be getting this one. I was at an event where McGuiness spoke a few years ago. A great public speaker and had some great stories.

Not a football fan, not a Donegal fan but when you consider what the man has achieved, he is someone who has made a serious impact on GAA.

I don't care what anyone says about the 2011 semi final. It was enthralling. The Dubs did just enough, but showed their mettle to get by Donegal. In 2012 Donegal were outstanding, producing football that was almost impossible to beat and the route they took to winning the title was impressive.

In 2013 Donegal were annihilated by Mayo. It was like all of Jim's plans were torn to bits in one 70 minute magical performance by Mayo. But ot his credit, he got Donegal back to the final in 2014, where the kingpins of the sport had to out-Donegal to beat them. The performance v Dublin in the semi was a tactical masterpiece and a fantastic game.

Best thing about his reign? Dublin, Donegal, Kerry and Mayo all took football up a notch in his years in charge. The speed of the counter attack, the tactical nous, the analysis, the pressure game, the kicking, the hand passing - in my opinion everything improved. Not all down to him, but he played his part. He deserves a lot of credit for his contribution to football.

Maybe it was the way he treated Kevin Cassidy.Or that journalist he embarrassed into leaving the press room, but im not McGuinness biggest fan.Obviously his managerial credentials are top notch, but i dont particularly enjoy listening to him.You swear he reinvented the wheel sometimes the way he goes on.I do love a good sports read, but ill be waiting until this book ends up in the 50% off section before contemplating a purchase.
