Dungarvan v Mount Sion - Violent Scenes

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I don't mind the odd bit of handbags at a game but this belt with the hurl on the player wearing blue 15 (at about 7 seconds in) in this clip is an absolute disgrace. If that happened on the street you'd do time. Lifetime ban from the game wouldn't be enough in my opinion.

Was it Gleeson? I wasn't sure which team was which. I read another article somewhere that said he received a straight red but will still be able to line our for Waterford in the Munster Final. If it was him I'd like to think whatever ban he gets (if he even does get one) will see him miss the game.

This is part of our cultural identity which is now unfortunately dying because of the videophone. What parish has not had and cherished the "annual dustup" to keep the natives happy and the punters flowing through the turnstiles hoping for a bit of "manly action" to liven up an otherwise generally mundane fixture? Videophones should be banned from local GAA games methinks as they spoil the good stories (generally greatly enhanced and embellished) which result from any half decent scrap that occurs. The beauty of this cultural gem is in the epic telling and the retelling of the joust and all this is lost with these "reality" videos. Imaginations of schemozzels lost forever.

What an utter pile of nonsense from the Kerry poster. Any person that has ever taken to a hurling field knows how to hurt an opponent. It's a very easy thing to do given you are effectively playing with what can be considered as a long handled weapon with a free striking range.

There is no excuse for violence in hurling, the fact it's not common is a testament to those who play the game. If hurlers lose respect for each other the game will become impossible to pass on. This respect gives us a far cleaner game than football.

Underwritten in hurling is a respect to go as hard for the ball as possible but for the ball only. Anyone who violates this code should be heavily punished.

So called shemozzles are inevitable, violence shouldn't be tolerated or encouraged.

Think my ears are bleeding - that video should come with a warning to play on mute.

Holy Mary Mother of God, thats quite a slur on the Full Backs Union particularly as I was a life time member!

As a card carrying member of the full back's union I'll back you up bumpernut.

I defo remember going for the ball once. I think it was around U16 or so.

i wouldn't agree the most go for the ball only, but there is a big difference between wild pulling around the ball (which i am not condoning) to someone who pulls across someones head off the ball. what is on that video crosses the line big time and as i said in my previous post (which for some reason has disappeared!) the Guards should take it out of the GAA's hands.

Theres no excuse for flaking a guy across the head like that. Its assault pure and simple and should be dealt with quickly and decisively.
