Number of Steps taken by Kevin McManaman

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Hi all

The rule book states 3 but players tend to get a way with four.

Its nothing against Kevin but I have watched numerous clips and he takes 7-8 steps without playing the ball.

Is there an allowance by refs because players like Kevin have short strides?

If the GAA applied the rules on this as they should Kerry would have been 39 not 37 All Ireland's ;)

As a Kildare man would an examination of how man steps Eamonn Callaghan took when he scored his goal against Down in 2010 not be more pertinent. Not having a go at Eamonn or Pat McEaneaney for that matter.

Just wondering if they make allowances for disallowed goals as well?

Interesting stuff alright

When are Rules in GAA actually Rules. Anyway don't think its fair to single out Kevin as this happens week in week out at GAA games at all levels.

Jaysus I tread the opening post and wondered how I had got it wrong in all my years playing. But just for info samforlilly:

1.4 When a player is in possession of the ball, it
may be:-
(a) carried for a maximum of four consecutive
steps or held in the hand(s) for no longer
than the time needed to take four steps;

and a wee link to the full playing rules ;-)

Surely everyone knows that you are allowed at least 7 steps if you are making space for a score...

None of that now, none of that, those Bomber Liston specials were a thing of beauty!

Everytime Sean Cavanagh does his jinky move he fouls the ball

In fairness to the OP and Eamonn Callaghan, Kevin Mc does habitually take considerably more steps than the rule book allows and for some strange reason is never pulled up on it by referees. Maybe a home ground thing with refs?

It was a mistake putting up you tubes clips as posters seem to get side tracked imo.

Re: Eamon Callaghan 2010 : he was being fouled whilst running with the ball so ref gave advantage instead of penalty I felt ref let it go to even out B coulter goal period.

I feel K McM is fouling the ball all the time because he takes short steps.

Ref need to be aware of this and he needs to be pulled up especially with the Kildare game coming up (:)

The advantage rule has changed this again. If a player is running with the ball and is getting pulled and fouled the ref usually puts the hand up for the free but allows the players an extra 3 or 4 steps to get away from the foul so you will sometimes see players taking 7 or 8 steps and the ref happy for them to do so.

Why is Kevin being singled out for this? You would think that no other player in the history of the GAA has done this.

samforlilly,

Hopefully Kevin bangs in a couple of goals on Sunday week while taking 10 steps each because of what you said :)

What is your explanation for Kev Mc getting away with flouting the laws of gaelic football then?
