Central Council has decided to proceed with the appointment of a Director of Hurling, to work with an external consultancy organisation to produce a best practice template as a blueprint for all counties in efforts to develop hurling and to work as a matter of urgency for the standardisation of the sliotar. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 25/05/2015 16:15:11 1728204 Link 0 |
I am similarly puzzled by the use of an external consultancy organization. Who outside the GAA is going to know more about hurling, or how to develop it? Are they going to know more than the people behind the growth of hurling in Carlow over the last 10 years? I doubt it. Marlon_JD (Tipperary) - Posts: 1823 - 25/05/2015 16:56:02 1728229 Link 0 |
Yeah that would be the right thinking of it. Sure look at the last debacle that twas the Tian leagues, bang the games into as quick a time frame as possible at the worst time of the year for playing hurling and take the responsibility and hassle away from the county boards to run hurling leagues which if they were being totally honest {yeah right }were only an inconvenience and used up valuable time to play football. Maybe if a proper template for development of hurling including underage squads was drawn up which all counties had to implement in full or be fined, lose grants or some other sanction then possibly hurling would become stronger in the so called weaker counties and we are only weaker because the county boards of these counties only pay lip service and invest the minimum they can get away with. Look at some of the games played this year in the lower hurling leagues and the lower tier championships { again crammed into a 6/7 week period with no consideration for proper recovery for players }and they would not be equalled for skill, pace and enthrallment in div1/2 or liam mc carthy yet get absolutely minimum coverage or recognition and having to play teams who should be relegated just to get to a higher level and standard yet any wonder they are called weaker counties because everything is stacked against them. Look at antrim who haven't won a game in 2years but are only relegated this year in league and championship, yet play in leinster championship and are automatically in an ulster final { yes I know they are there as holders }how or why is this fair for the only county out of 34 with this privalage. disilusioned (Tyrone) - Posts: 4 - 25/05/2015 17:18:11 1728242 Link 0 |

The best people to work with and who know what will and won't work on the ground for hurling are.... People in each county! valley84 (Westmeath) - Posts: 1890 - 25/05/2015 21:42:05 1728392 Link 0 |

Ormond, maybe the GAA could ask the IRFU how they managed to get all of the working class areas playing rugby in Dublin because that has been a phenomenal success.....not. hurlinspuds (Cork) - Posts: 1494 - 26/05/2015 10:18:46 1728446 Link 0 |
