TV Coverage

With the GAA back with a bang tomorrow.
Why is there no coverage of any games today!
Totally baffles me. No matter how small or big your county is there is no coverage today.
RTE and Sky showing games they missing out the start today and they are only keen to show big teams e.g Mayo, Tyrone, Kerry etc

the Offaly Longford game that I am going to tonight will probably be a decent match. Both teams are evenly matched and played decent football. This would be a decent watch for the neutral viewer.

However they are showing the match between Offaly/Longford and Dublin in the next round with is a complete waste of time and will be over before it even starts.

I understand that Dublin have a big population and this will probably attract more viewers but surely RTE could use their heads and try and show some matches that are likely to be closely contested and will provide a bit of entertainment. Afterall They are a public service broadcaster.

As a Mayo man.
I watch any game small or big county and tonight match between Offaly V Longford would be a cracker as they are nearly big rivals.
Tomorrow night Sunday Game highlights I guarantee they will show only 2mins of the Offaly which it's unfair.
TV3 should at least got rights to show games not just RTE and Sky.

Not sure about that footie.
Commentary was poor on Tv3 in my opinion and theres way too much ads.
Like theyd have a full ad break, do a 60 second analysis piece, and then have another full ad break.
I was against the Sky deal but I dont miss Tv3.

Well at least they were showing coverage.
Yes commentary and adverts were off.
But at least there Sky, RTE and TV3 to show coverage of different games you would have a choice to what game.
GAA is expanding all the time but coverage still not enough.
Same as the Allianz League the majority of games were D1.

Close exciting game tonight which ebbed and flowed and a great comeback from Longford in the second half. Offaly nearly snatched a draw in the end but the Longford goalie made a brilliant save in the dying seconds of the game.

May not have been the highest standard but there were some great scores kicked and it would have provided a hell of a lot more entertainment than the Dublin Longford game coming up which is actually on TV.

I agree with this post and think its a real shame these games are not on TV. I would watch any game, especially if they are evenly matched. The Longford v Offaly game sounded like a real cracker. Could TG4 not show these games?

The football championship began in earnest this evening but as far as RTE is concerned nothing has changed. Not one second of this evening's two games shown on the Nine News. Coverage of everything else but not Gaelic football. The sham continues. We were given lots of excuses for no coverage of the Subsidiary Competitions and the Leagues. What excuse has RTE now?

Well if you are calling some competitions subsidiary competitions why do they deserve to be covered. Subsidiary means something is "Secondary in importance; subordinate" so why should something like that be covered especially when it only is played prior to the league which many players/coaches/supporters treat as very much a competition subsidiary to the championship?
RTE will start coverage with a bang and even then you and your silly rtewatch twitter account wont be happy

The time for excuses is over. Our so-called National Broadcaster's failure to provide coverage of last night's two LSFC matches on the main news was a blatant snub to the most prestigious sporting competition on the entire island. League of Ireland soccer and Pro 12 fore gone conclusions deemed more important than championship football. Putting the interests of subsidiary sports ahead of championship football seems to be what RTE is all about. A full 8 months without live action and now they won't even show us championship highlights. What are we paying our license fee for?

I remember last year BBC didn't deem Fermanagh v Antrim worthy of any coverage and it was probably the best game of the year in terms of scores from play, drama etc. RTE for all their whinging about the modern game being negative and their lust for attacking play gave it two minutes of coverage at the end of the evening show, called them all good boys for playing a nice game and never mentioned it again. If that's the respect it gets then is it any wonder most managers don't give a damn about ruffling the feathers of our delicate pundits with a modern and more effective system...and rightly so! Those who want respect, give respect.

That is poor form from RTE alrite. They should have done a report from both games.Tonight on Sunday Game we could nearly write the script already.Donegal v Tyrone, even though live at 4pm,will be given the vast majority of air time.Laois v Carlow,Longford v Offaly and Leitrim v Galway will each get but a few minutes. The pundits will say a few words. For the losing teams, thats just about it for the year.Full years training for maximum 5 minute coverage on RTE.Maybe another couple of minutes waffle for their next qualifier game.

I don't think the GAA want those games televised as that affects attenances at the game and club games across the country

Give TG4 a pick of the games that arent being shown every weekend, they put real effort and research into every match they show, I think they've better pundits than sky and RTE and it'll pro ye the Gaeilge

What are you doing about the so called bad behaviour of RTE? Most prestigious competition in your opinion. Pro12 wasnt a foregone conclusion. Plenty was still to play for and the competition is at the end and most exciting part of the year. Arrogance of you to call rugby, soccer shows subsidiary sport shows you to be a fool.
Why dont you do something about it if you think there is something wrong

Do RTE have right to show games other than the ones theyve already covered

crowd attendance doesnt always and shouldnt determine what games are shown live on tv

they cant unless TG4 pay to show games and do TG4 want to pay more to show games live

Why don't you ask them instead of your constant whining on here about RTE. No rugby on now so we'll knock RTE's GAA coverage before it's even properly started as was predicted.

Our so-called National Broadcaster's failure to provide coverage of last night's two LSFC matches on the main news was a blatant snub to the most prestigious sporting competition on the entire island. WELL THEY COVERED BOTH ON SUNDAY GAME SO THAT KNOCKS OUT THAT ARGUEMENT

League of Ireland soccer and Pro 12 fore gone conclusions IF THEY ARE FOREGONE CONCULSIONS CAN YOU ENLIGHTEN US AS TO WHO WILL WIN THEM SO WE CAN ALL GO TO THE BOOKIES AND MAKE A FEW QUID - SOME COULD EVEN ARGUE THAT LEINSTER AND CONNACHT FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE FOREGONE CONCLUSIONS - MAYBE EVEN MUNSTER TOO - SHOULD RTE BY YOUR LOGIC NOT COVER THEM

Putting the interests of subsidiary sports ahead of championship football seems to be what RTE is all about.
SHOULD YOU NOT SAY CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL AND HURLING - OR DO YOU VIEW HURLING AS SUBSIDIARY TOO

A full 8 months without live action and now they won't even show us championship highlights. WAS THERE NOT HIGHLIGHTS ON THE SUNDAY GAME AND REVIEW OF 2014 YEAR AND A LIVE GAME ON RTE YESTERDAY PLUS ANOTHER 30 LIVES GAMES TO COME

GREEN AND RED - FOR YOU MY PAL I AM RESPONDING IN CAPS!!!!

interesting on sunday game last night that galway v leitrim and louth v westmeath only got shown via report format rather then a game with commentary- why is that surley all games should be done equally - Loved the overhead shots of the grounds too

Good point Janesboro. I was in Carrick on Shannon yesterday and while I admit it was an average game at best it was an insult to the Connacht Championship with the 3 minute report format particularly as it was not a live game from earlier. I know the mass media want the big game Donegal/Tyrone but the SG could at least give more emphasis to the non live game. I know a few people who turned away from the live game yesterday such was the antics and they certainly were not going to wait up for the SG particularly when the same live game is first in the highlights programme. Could they not have put Donegal/Tyrone last on the SG.
