With all the talk of rule changes in the GAA, ways to improve football etc, it got me thinking of something that's bugged me for a while. Has anyone else ever considered 45's & 65's to be a completely illogical result of the ball being deflected wide? Over 80% of 65's in hurling are converted, and even as far u-14, a decent free taker would expect to convert the majority of them. It's to a much less alarming rate in football, but still an issue. I'll delve into an example: jafallon (Galway) - Posts: 489 - 15/05/2015 11:58:16 1723921 Link 0 |
Not aimed at yourself primarily , but is there anything at all that people out there DO NOT want to change ? Damothedub (Dublin) - Posts: 5193 - 15/05/2015 12:55:45 1723949 Link 0 |
How would a defender hooking a forward end up a 65? the forward was the last player to touch the ball Brianmac78 (Dublin) - Posts: 1168 - 15/05/2015 13:09:14 1723957 Link 0 |
After the general scramble that would usually result after a hook. The defender flicking the ball off the boss is another example. I think you get the general point anyway. I personally think all the talk of rule changes is a little overblown, the game(s) is in a fine state and its only natural that it would catch up on preofessional sports in terms of tactics. It adds interest in that respect. This is soemthing ive always thought though and nobody yet has ever given me a logical response as to why a deflected wide deserves to directly result in a score a fair portion of the time . The 'attacking advantage' point is fair, still cant be given as the sole reason though. jafallon (Galway) - Posts: 489 - 15/05/2015 15:29:40 1724056 Link 0 |
100 years ago, if the ball went out wide off a defender a point was awarded to the attacking team! The reason more 65s than 45s are scored is because the art of placed ball freetaking in football has diminished since the rule that you can kick frees from your hands came in. Mikey Sheehey, Matt Connor, Brian Stafford & Larry Tompkins were seriously accurate from placed ball. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 15/05/2015 16:09:52 1724071 Link 0 |
anything inside the opposition 45 should have to be kicked off the ground. valley84 (Westmeath) - Posts: 1889 - 15/05/2015 16:41:21 1724087 Link 0 |
