Dubs easy run in leinster - myth

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Its always trotted out again and again that we have this "easy run" In Leinster.....

Anyone care to watch the last few Dubs Meath games??? Easy....? What qualifies as easy these days?

Meath always give us a game and this idea people have that we only turn up and coast thru that game is a myth.

If anything Kerry and Mayo have the easiest provinces to get out of in recent years, not us!!! :)

Ah Liam pull the other one. The last two leinster finals were over well before the finish. You are bringing unnecessary heat on yourselves with this thread and nothing since suggests things will change. Leinster is the weakest province at the moment as unlike the others only one team has any realistic chance of winning it. Ros and Galway have a better chance of dethroning Mayo than anyone in Leinster has of beating Dublin. This is in part to these counties slowly integrating quality underage into the senior set up.

Other than 2013, the margins of Mayo's Connacht final wins in the past four seasons have been two points, two points and seven points, hardly thrashings. Unlike the Leinster football final last year.

I'm sorry Liam but I disagree it is an easy route right now for Dublin, Meath and Kildare are gone way back.

Myth my a...

So lets assume that Meath get back to their glory days (big assumption) that's still only one hard game to get out of your province, (no disrespect to the other Leinster sides)

Your barking up the wrong tree here........

Not Dublin's fault of course but I disagree that yer run is harder than say our own through Connacht.

If you look at where each Province was represented in this years leagues:

Ulster:
Div 1 teams - 4
Div 2 teams - 2
Div 3 teams - 2
Div 4 teams - 1

Munster:
Div 1 teams - 2
Div 2 teams - 0
Div 3 teams - 3
Div 4 teams - 1

Leinster:
Div 1 teams - 1
Div 2 teams - 4
Div 3 teams - 2
Div 4 teams - 4

Connacht:
Div 1 teams - 1
Div 2 teams - 2
Div 3 teams - 1
Div 4 teams - 1

If you base it on the leagues being completed and where they will be in the next NFL/currently ranked as per league standings:

Ulster:
Div 1 teams - 3
Div 2 teams - 5
Div 3 teams - 0
Div 4 teams - 1

Munster:
Div 1 teams - 2
Div 2 teams - 0
Div 3 teams - 3
Div 4 teams - 1

Leinster:
Div 1 teams - 1
Div 2 teams - 2
Div 3 teams - 4
Div 4 teams - 4

Connacht:
Div 1 teams - 2
Div 2 teams - 1
Div 3 teams - 1
Div 4 teams - 1

Not saying this has any reflection on the prestige of each Provincial Championship but more that its another yardstick to compare with. Will let people analyse this themselves and come to their own conclusions.

Its simple...munster, connacht and leinster are easy for Kerry, Mayo and Dublin as they are miles ahead of any county in those provinces during the last few campaigns. Reason is they are the best teams and will continue to be. Due to the 'style' of football played in ulster games are usually tight so no great surprise there, but in recent years apart from a glimpse or two from Donegal none of them teams have been good enough when it comes to the big stage.

No need to over analyse it. Simple as that. Its usually people from other counties who complain so much as they realise their counties chances of success are slim to none and they try to make petty excuses for their own counties shortcomings.

The Leinster Hurling Championship is the only show in down out East. The football one now mirrors the hurling one during KKs dominance and before the emergence of Dublin and the introduction of Galway.

Meath their only challengers, even when Kildare are strong, it is a very rare day that we beat Dublin in Croker. Meath don't have the 70 mins in them to trouble Dublin this year so it will be a canter for them. No Dublin would worry about any Leinster opposition at present.

Actually yew tree in 2012 dubs won by 3 points , but that been said Meath were probably closer the next year in 13 despite a bigger 6?/7 point loss, with the exception of last year which is all we are been based on we are one of only handful of teams that can beat Dublin. This year i actually think dubs will have a battle (not saying they wont win it) but id rate Meath as good as any team in Connaught and equal to majority in ulster.
Dublin will get a serious test from Meath this year, but i don't know if that'll be enough, Meath have a very strong fb line, perhaps one of the strongest in country with keoghan McGill and probably Reilly or mcentee, hb line is not too strong , the middle is the best we've had since McDermott era, and half forward line looks lethal, our ff line is not what your expect from Meath of old, we are getting there but slower than id like to see, i am extremely happy with how we been written off, we will coast to last 12 and that's when the real stuff happens. But look under the radar is fine by us, alot of people will have a very different view of Meath after the championship, there is huge talent in that panel, keep them injury free and trust me come august we will still be in championship, i do think it will probably take another man to compete for Sam, but progress has been made.

Factor in croke park too, will be interesting to see what sort of crowd is out for dubs very offaly / Longford To justify Dublin having home advantage throughout the leinster championship.

Definitely Ulster is the strongest province and league standings should count for something i.e winner of Ulster should go straight into All Ireland semi final and I'm from Laois.

Was it 2011 ? Against Kildare maybe when Bernard Brogan nailed a stone-wall free into the canal end ?

League standing will mean nothing come Leinster, we should make last 12 with relative ease. Id expect Meath to push Dublin all the way this year, with the introduction of McGill mcentee Flanagan Rooney and the return of Gillespie Wallace Newman and Reilly from injury it will be a closer affair than last year , previously to that ONE game Meath dub matches have been close enough.
