Dublin dominance ruining the GAA?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

If you are a Dublin fan or involved with the Dublin GAA set up these are great times no doubt. GAA HQ and the media are piggybacking economically on the back of this as well so they are quite content too but the truth is that the Dublin monster in the long-term will do untold damage to the wider Association. That game today turned into another production line win for Dublin but if truth be told it was pretty dire for the rest of us. With the massive unfairness in Dublin's favour just getting wider by the year why don't the GAA just bypass the formalities and hand the League title and SAM to Dublin at the start of every season alongside that 1.8 million Euro cheque? It is now just becoming a North Korean farce.

Although Dublin have so many advantages over all counties , the only one I have a problem with is the home advantage every single game . Dublin fans love travelling and seeing them pack out Longford or Wexford would be great . The GAA should forget about the money for once .

Side Note : Dublin won't be beaten this year !

fair to say Cork will not be a contender this year

Yes UM its all Dublins fault. No way is it the overly defensive (to put it politely) tactics employed by your beloved Northern brethern, amongst others.

Couldn't possibly agree. After my own county they would be my choice to win an All Ireland. They play such a positive attractive brand of football. A credit and a great asset to the GAA.

Exactly rightstuff! Dublin fans do love travelling and I can guarantee you no matter where we play we'll outnumber the opposition support! And I also guarantee you the result will still be the same This mullarkey aboutdublin playing in croker all the just excuses from culchies and nordies because they can't beat us most of the time and they're using this excuse instead of looking at their own teams shortcomings!Donegal got on with it last year had a go and got the result! Other teams and supporters take note '

The Dubs: When they win they are unbeatable and lose are in decline. Great performance by Dublin today and I shudder to think what awaits the rest of us in Leinster. On the evidence of Cork's dire performance today notwithstanding their two goals, Kerry will stroll through Munster and arrive in Croke Park in August perfectly primed to defend their All-Ireland title.

Yes without doubt Dublin playing every game in croke park is a advantage and any dub telling you different is a liar .
But apart from that they have a magnificent squad and are worthy fav for Sam, also majority of supporters would love to travel (even with more apprehension than in hq)

Get a grip.. For all their so-called "dominance". What have they won that sets them apart as special? I grew up hearing the tired old line "Dublin needs to win the all ireland, its good for the game". Back then, they went 12 YEARS between 83 and 95 and another 16 before winning the next one.
Now they have won a couple and people are losing the run of themselves. Things in sport are cyclical. this current Dublin team is special and I think will go on to dominate for a while yet..But its nothing to get over-excited about..Its a fact of life that Dublin and Kerry are more often than not going to be involved in the latter end of the championship..The sooner you come to terms with that the better. As a Meath man I will relish the day when we hammer the Jackeens up in croker again.. Toicfaidh ár la!..hopefully sooner rather than later...

Well gaelic football was ruined by the emergence of Armagh and Tyrone and their rugby league approach in the early 00s, then donegal but the final nail in the coffin with the total defence handpass the opposition into submission approach.. the game is on its deathbed

royaldunne, with all due respect, we play every game AWAY from home.

But seriously, your county board and the rest in Leinster keeps voting the Dubs into Croke Park for the Leinster Championship. We just play where we are told to.

It's not like Dublin are calling the shots.

Out from under the blanket he emerges. Hardly a coincidence he didn't raise this topic when Tipp knocked us out of the U21 championship last week.

Regarding playing outside of Croker, i think most agree it makes sense to play at least some games in other venues such as Leinster quarters or preliminaries. Perhaps even All Ireland quarters should be moved depending on who plays. The spring series should also be reconsidered at least in part. The Derry game should of been in Parnell. But today was a national final and deserved to be played in Croker Park.

The match itself, we played well, our best display this season only clouded by the concession of two soft goals. Cork were abysmal so take what you want out of it.

IM not saying its anything to do with dubs specifically, yes there cb along with rest in Leinster are solely concentrating on the moolah and the Leinster council would have a heart attack if delegates voted a game outside of it. Ive no problem with Leinster final been there actually i think that should be set in stone but bringing Offaly or Longford there is ridicules, Offaly for arguments sake wouldn't beat dubs in Tullamore but they may give them a game.
Again its not solely Dublin fault but it is a advantage, ill give a small example lets just assume a couple of things, lets say Meath and dubs play in Leinster final Dublin will have played 8 games in the same ground since defeat to Donegal, Meath wil have played one since loss to Armagh, and its not making excuses or trying to say wed have better chance outside it as final should be played there, but its over used and particularly for Dublin games.

Armagh very rarely played the same defensive football employed by Donegal or Tyrone. If you look at our games from the period our game was based on physical strength and accurate kick passing!

In reply to the thread Dublin are a great side who play some spectacular football that is a great antidote to the dross served up by 99% of county teams at the minute including my own county at times. I hope some managers take notice and stop being so pragmatic go and try and shoot the lights out!

Wishful thinking after a few beers on a Sunday evening!

Dear of dear Ulsterman. Define DOMINANCE. We've won 3 AIs in 20yrs and now we are DOMINATing the sport. Were you on here in the noughties when Tyrone were DOMINATing??? Did you not claim, following our semi victory over Monaghan, with your many posts on this forum, that Monaghan were robbed, that the referee won the match for Dublin. This is the same Dublin that you claim are dominating the sport. Can you show us your source for this 1.8m euro that Dublin supposedly got? Didn't you also claim that Throne only got 50K last year on another thread when in fact they received 120K? Maths obviously isn't your strong point either. Must try harder!
