Had to start a page after that shocking red card on the Down player, referee this is Gaelic Football not soccer that's a shocking red card to give never ever a booking or a red card disgraceful call from deegan I'm disgusted.

Probably the worst decision I have ever seen at senior county level, two yellow cards for nothing incidents which involved BOTH players. This ridiculous decision would demoralise players and make a fella walk away from the game for good.

Does not surprise me with this particular referee.

The game was effectively over after that decision, the Down fellas seem a bit flat and dispirited by Deegan's calls.

The red card destroyed the game, one of the worst decisions ive witnessed.
What sanctions if any are imposed on refs for making such a huge error?
If there is no punishment why would any ref care how bad they perform ??

Was a free in but never a second yellow think he realised his error at half time as he gave roscommon nothing in second half

Why are you surprised the standard of refereeing in football is poor. It is a hard job though.

Gaa will reward deegan and say everything is rosy with the standard of refereeing. The boys at the top, referee what ever way they like and are guaranteed the top games. The standard is poor because of the lack of sanctions for bad performances.

Ref's have a huge responsibility, with the current spotlight on negative defending etc not enough spotlight is shone on the Referees contributions to the state of some games. It was a very poor red and some other decisions around tackling in that game where just poor.

Shaggy - spot on . This Craic of trying to ' even it' up is equally as bad!

But what annoyed me was even if it was a foul how could the ref think that it deserved a second yellow which means red surely common sense should prevail there but no deegan straight out with a yellow and he's gone for nothing honestly everything about Gaelic football is bugging the be jaysus out of me the last few years between blanket defences non stop hand passing black cards diving and cheating everything that we all hate about soccer and we slag about soccer is in our game now with refs refereeing our games like soccer refs. Well done Roscommon Kilbride was class up front looking forward to see how they go in Connaught.

Poor decision by deegan
Kilbride didn't look for it, we were better side mainly cause had far better bench was happy but at end of day it was just a good challenge match played in front of a crowd in Croke Park
Hope diarmuid is ok that's biggest thing of today's match

Very poor decision, but Down were so disappointing today that I don't think it would have affected the result.

Being devils advocate (and didn't see the game); perhaps he was sent off for a third notable infraction??? Just because it wasn't what you would consider to be a yellow card infraction in its own right, if it were the third on conceded by the player then he, by the letter of the law, must be shown a second yellow.

As I said, I didn't see the game, so just throwing it out there.....

Its becoming more and more the case that referees are helping teams win a match. When a team realise that the referee is totally against them it must be the biggest frustration in a game. It certainly changes the course of a match.

It's only a matter of time before a county will challenge a defeat as a result of wrong reffing decisions through the courts. Ref's are not accountable and Croke Park stand by them even if serious decisions are overturned. How many red cards have been overturned in recent times and although some had a bearing on the final result the very same refs are sent out the following week? It's happening in hurling too. Just look at the Henry Shefflin incident in 2013. Croke Park knew that it was a wrong sending off but yet forced the greatest hurler of all time and a great ambassador for the GAA to go through all kinds of hoops to clear his name! Similarly with Seamus Callanan just recently when it took the GAA over two weeks to clear him. Yet the same refs are allowed to continue officiating without question. If a manager does open his mouth he's reprimanded. A joke of a system.
