Sean Cavanagh - Injury

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Sean was for first time I can recall benched against Donegal in the penultimate league match. He come on at half time and word was he had a knee problem. He started against Kerry and had his best game for some time catching and holding great ball under pressure.
He never played for his club The Moy yesterday and there are reports his knee is gone. Given he fought back from 2 career threatening shoulder injuries a couple of years back it'll be hard if this is ACL to come back again.
Personally I'd hate to see this "Man" fade away like this and hope he can comeback and leave as near the top as possible. His service for Tyrone, Ulster and Ireland deserves better.
Hopefully this is not well founded but some evidence that it is.

I agree that it would be a terrible shame. He was close to being the best player in the country in 2013. Hopefully it's just speculation...

Yeah that was apparently a knee injury in March. Did they rush him back too soon? He has had his fair share of injuries over the years. The game needs fellas of his calibre playing but he's in his 30s now so another bad injury could see him call it a day which would be terrible.

I hope he can recover and get back playing for club and county. Class act.

Sad to hear this but not surprised either. It is a tough slog for a player in the modern game.

Take this down, absolute speculation! Don't want this getting blown out of proportion.

Yeah heard similar Mattie Dnnelly last year he ended up in Oz for international rules..

Joxer - I'd hope they wouldn't mess around with something like that but curiously he had his best game in years against Kerry...caught and held everything real fire in his belly..

It'll come out I'm sure one way or other over the next few weeks as we approach Dun na ngall but in truth we need everything to go right for Ballybofey

Hardly think its an ACL injury as someone would have seen it happen. More likely is that he need a cartilage repaired and most players would be back training 10 days after that op so he'll probably be fine for the championship/qualifiers ;)

Tear? Small tear 3-6 weeks if no surgery required. Bigger 6-12 months with surgery.

Didnt Harte drop him for an all Ireland final one year cause he thought he wasnt up for it mentally.

Cavanagh off his crutches and managed a game for the Moy last night...hopefully he'll be freed up and get back to something of his best..glimpses of this against Ciarrai.

That was the 2009 AI semi-final against Cork. Sean took himself out of that game, telling Harte on the morning of the match that he didn't feel right to play. He wasn't dropped.

As for the current injury, I saw him play on Sunday for his club, and he looked better than I expected. Very rusty early on, especially with his shooting, but played 60 minutes in very wet conditions, and grew into the game as it wore on. He'll definitely start against Donegal.
