Offaly greats come out of retirement!

(Oldest Posts First)

Great to see Daithi Regan and Johnny Pilkington back out of retirement...if they play their cards right they could do a job for the Offaly senior team yet this year!

sad reflection on where offaly hurling is at that birr are now needing lads like them!and funnily,at that level,i bet they would both hold their own.although i do remember 1-2 of the wexford 1996 end up hurling when they were past it and it is an ignominious end.

They are coming back to play for Birrs junior team which is their third team as they have teams in senior and intermediate. And fair play to them for doing it, hurling especially underage, is really struggling in Birr with soccer and rugby now the main sports in the town

No they have 2 rugby adult teams and at least 3 soccer teams, although they could have more. What i meant was the youth of the town now play more soccer and rugby than hurling. Birr havent won a county title at any level since 2008 and are now only a quarter final team that could possibly shock one of the big teams but dont have the talent to win it. A bit like the county team, when things were going well they neglected the underage and now are bearing the fruits of this

Thanks for the info tantorio. Who would be the strongest underage club in offaly hurling these days?

Kilcormac/Killoughey have dominaated underage for the last 10/15 years and have won 3 of the last 4 minor titles and were beaten in the final in the other. Their dedication to underage is starting to come to fruition as they have won the last 3 senior titles and are hot favourites for 4 in a row. Despite this they only have 2 players on the county panel, Dan Currams and Cillian Kiely who is just out of minor.. go figure!
