Kerry's route to the last 8 : so easy !

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Kerry had it so tough yesterday , imagine that's what it's like every year in the Ulster championship , they beat us fairly and squarely last September but could they win 3-4 of those matches in a row every year . Yesterday just shows us the unevenness of the championship . Even if they lose the provincial final , they enter the final round of qualifiers - it's a joke really . Black Cards and blankets is the latest fashion however , for me , the inequality in the provincial system needs addressing . Don't get me wrong , there are years when the draw can be kind but it's rare . I know Dublin are strolling Leinster at present but at least traditionally Meath and Kildare are always there and the Dubs don't get it easy - also other sides can sporadically rise up ie : Offaly , Laois , Westmeath . Kerry is a beautiful football county but they have it so so much easier than Ulster /Leinster sides !

This is debatable.

Kerry will be without competitive football for about 14 weeks now, the munster final in killarney. Yes they will have no injury or suspension issues, but they also wont have any tough games before this. Is this really the best preparation for a champoinship?

Granted, if a team gets injuries and or black cards over playing extra games before this, it is a massive issue that will ruin a team for august.

If you can avoid this, you are in a better position, but if not, you are wide open to get beaten.

So in my estimation, I would prefer to be out playing, provided you have the squad there to work from.

Yes fellow county man but the overall championship structure is based on either win or lose ; if a county has less matches , it has a much better chance of being in the shake up every year !

No disrespect but if we played in ulster we'd pi*s through to quarters every year anyway and the same if we were in Leinster or Connacht as well and every1 knows that , we have won allirelands through the back door traveling all over the country to play teams in fact we've never lost a qualifier game , we're 10 for 10 . In fairness if we wanted to beat Tyrone yesterday we could have done it but we didn't have to and we don't care about winning the league our aim every year is to maintain out div 1 status so we give our older players a rest and we give our promising young fellas game time, we have 19 league titles the nearest to us is Dublin on 13 I think. Now don't get me wrong if we had got through to the semi we'd have given it a lash but unlike the dubs we are not a league team.
So best of luck in ulster and yerra sure we might see ye in August if we make it that far ;-)

Kingdom - come on , you really believe that , Armagh , Tyrone , Down and ourselves have all beaten you's in Croker - why wouldn't we in a narrow pitch in Ballybofey . What I'm saying is that you's would you's win 3-4 in a row every year - Not a hope :)

I honestly believe if were playing in ulster we'd be unstoppable , could you imagine how tuned in we'd be for the allireland series we'd be every year if we had a couple of tougher games in the provincial series to prepare us. I think if we played in ulster ye would all be playing hurling coz ye wouldn't be able to handle us ;-)
I'm sorry the truth hurts , ye'r nice people up north I had a great weekend in omagh but be carefull what ye wish for.

Appears to me that Kerry will always be contenders as long as referees continue to treat them differently to other teams. Is the black card gone? How did Kerry not lose 2/3 players yesterday to the black card? David Moran deliberately took out Colm Kavanagh off the ball and gets a yellow? Kerry probably the most cynical team in the country but will never get bad press because it's KERRY

I propose that the Ulster Council offer Kerry a guest appearance in the Ulster championship in the next few years. It would be great marketing with bumber crowds. Donegal v Kerry first round of Ulster on a nice July evening in Clones.

Right stuff will you ever give it a break we know the other countys dont like us
this topic has been discussed several times Kerry dont make the rules
they play whats in front of them and if they win those games they are the
best team the cream always comes to the top making excuses because teams
in Ulster dont win as much they are not good enough try a new topic
if Donegal were in Munster they would never win an AI Ireland they wouldnt
get out of Munster the two best teams in the country are in that province

Greenwood how did Sean Cavanagh stay on the field took out two Kerry players
did you miss that Meath would have won nothing in the 80s if they played football

you could be right maybe kerry would not have it so easy in ulster..having said that though...theyed stroll it every year winning each match by more than 6 if northern counties tried to adapt the proper way in which football should be played.its hard for a cork man to defend kerry by the way

WfKerry - you's are rightly lauded as the architects and aristocrats of the game HOWEVER , you's still have it easier . Come on , Kerry now adopt the blanket - we only played it because Tyrone and Armagh were always beating us. Are you's telling me that Tipp or Clare have a better chance of beating you's than Down or Monaghan ?? People are not answering the thread - Kerry will always win big games but they have never had to win 6-7 proper games in one year ! As stated though : great football county - the best but it's slightly tinted with east routes all the time .
If Dublin were in Munster for all it's time , they would have more All-Ireland's IMO !

Kerry would walk ulster and Connaught every year too, in actual fact only dubs and cork who are in Munster anyway can beat them.

While I agree the system is unbalanced thats not Kerry's fault. Also it's not like Cork are a bad team. Leinster and Connacht have been worse in recent years than Munster. Connacht at least looks like Roscommon and Galway will be far more competitive this year. Leinster will be a cake walk for Dublin again.

The draw in Ulster has been really unkind to Tyrone and Donegal this year. If Donegal retain their Ulster title it will be a hell of an achievement.

As to whether Kerry would dominate Ulster, I think they'd still win a lot but would probably suffer more injuries and suspensions which would prevent them being as fresh when they reach Croke Park.

I think a seeded champions league style system is probably the best alternative. League position could be used to calculate seeding.
