Congratulations to the Kerry hurlers on retaining their 2A title.

It is however a disgrace that they are not automatically promoted as a reresult.

Well done Kerry - some first half performance.

I think the madness of the promotion system has been dealt with enough on this site

Today is a day to enjoy a National Title

Well done boys. Have we to play Antrim now in Antrim legend ? Or is it a neutral venue? And it is a big joke all right that we don't go straight to 1 b , I wonder what ulsterman thinks of that bit of favouritism .

yeah but sure when they win the christy ring they choose not to go into the liam mccarthy then
so you cannot have it every way

Fair play to them. Some good hurlers in Kerry in fairness.

There's talk of Parnell Park in Dublin being the venue for the disgraceful and unjustified play-off next weekend.

Congrats to the kerry hurlers.

To get promoted they only have to beat antrim next week, climb everest and drain the shannon.

When these are achieved they then have to survive the inevitable restrucuring that will take
place whenever a top tier team is in danger of getting relegated.

sure they will probably turn down promotion if they win anyway
like they do when they win the christy ring

@ hill16no1man - The Christy Ring had promotion one way for a number of years without any team being relegated. Had the provincial qualifier group been in place in 2011, Kerry would have gone into that group. Promotion was left up to the counties to decide. It would have been better at that time for the Ring winner to go into the qualifiers to gauge if they were ready for the step up. Kerry made that suggestion when they declined promotion. It takes intelligence that some people don't have to understand the reasons they stayed in the Ring championship.

Ha ha, I see the Dubs can't help having a dig! Tis easy to be decent in two codes when you have 1.5 million people to chose from, and only decent in the last 6 years at that ;)

Firstly let me say congrats , secondly check back to last years posts Ive posted numerous times on Carlow Westmeath kildare and Kerry hurling , Ive said from from start that HQ load everything in top counties favour , Ive said theres vested intrests at play were in one hand statements are made re encouraging weaker counties but actions and funding never follow .
For some Kerry followers and I say some, its a bit rich complaining how your treated , when you dont have an issue with loading your provincial in favour of yourselves and Cork in football .

Would that be "loading" the competition by not opposing a motion put forward by one of the so called weaker counties?

@ Damothedub - I've often said it's provincial finalists that should be seeded. Anyone can then earn a seeding. Leinster football has this seeding system for quarter-finals. Munster football due to numbers can only apply this to semi-finals and it's coming into place this year.

The cricket want to exclude associate countries. Hurling want to exclude Christy Ring counties.

While I agree that kerry should go up automatically, another poster suggested the current system is in place to protect kerry rather than antrim. If they did go up would it help or hinder them? Taking tremendous beatings doesn't do anybody any good. They couldn't do much worse than antrim and they have earned the right to pit themselves against better opposition but the gulf between 1b and 2a is the biggest gap across the leagues So I can understand the logic to some degree. That being said,I still ththik I'd be fuming if I were a kerry hurler.

All players need to test themselves at a higher level. If Kerry were in 1B this year they probably mightn't have won a game. They still would have learned a whole lot more than 10 years in 2A.

I think the Christy Ring finalists and the 3rd and 4th placed teams in the qualifier group should enter the All-Ireland qualifiers. Simply draw the 4 losing provincial quarter-finalists against these 4. Counties have to play teams above their level at some stage.

If Westmeath finish outside the top 2 in the qualifier group, their season is over. While the provincial semi-finals are taking place, the weekend is there for them to be in qualifier round 1.

Kildare and Kerry contested last year's Ring final. If they advanced to an All-Ireland qualifier round 1, it would have been hugely beneficial regardless of the result.

The need to finish in the top 2 of the qualifier group to have a shot at a provincial championship seeding would remain. The need to win the Ring championship to enter the qualifier group in the following year would also remain.

Kingdomboy1- Don't fall into the trap of having a go at Antrim because of structures that were put in place by others to ensure that the 'elite' of hurling stay 'elite'. There is lip service paid to the notion of teams outside the elite making any progress towards the top table. I would also be upset at not getting automatic promotion.

Good luck next week. May the best team win.

As an Antrim man I can understand the Kerry frustrations especially after they got beat by Offaly last year but bearing in mind how Offaly have performed this year in reaching the quarter finals of the National Hurling League would it have helped the other teams in Division 2A having Offaly in their league this year. In my opinion definitely not. The fact is if Kerry can't beat Antrim who have not won a game in Division 1B this year then they don't deserve to be in Division 1B. If Kerry do beat Antrim and they end at the bottom of Division 1B next year then they have a second chance to stay up which would be an advantage to them.
Let the Kerry hurlers do their talking on the field and beat Antrim and go up to Division 1B on merit and their heads held high.

Posters dont vote , never said they did as Im well aware of who put forward proposals etc , my issue is with posters on HS who justified a system in football that gave the big Two an even better chance , but at the same time complaining a system that is equally unjust in hurling , like I posted not aimed at every Kerry fan .
