Offaly's footballers have suffered a massive set-back with the news that captain Paraic Sullivan will miss the remainder of the season after rupturing his cruciate ligament. jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20587 - 25/03/2015 10:50:31 1706322 Link 0 |
I know a number of players that have done this injury and not county players . One guy was a junior club hurler and another from same club did it during training for football , it just goes to show the madness fitness levels these players are putting themselves through. ke40 (Kildare) - Posts: 209 - 25/03/2015 11:37:28 1706360 Link 0 |
Jimbo the only thing I'll say is Kilkenny's injury was a freak accident when he was going for the ball his leg got caught with a player and O Niell was going for the ball and his studs got stuck in the ground so I'm not sure if it's just with so many matches and training that on average these things will happen or else there doing to much for ameteurs I don't know. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 25/03/2015 11:50:58 1706368 Link 0 |
There was a study done in fermanagh in 2010. We had 8 cruciate injurys that year at various levels and under various difference circumstances. All 8 players where wearing Blades rather than Studs. This led to Our club Banning blades. Just wonder what footwear these players above where mentioned? manowar (Fermanagh) - Posts: 147 - 25/03/2015 12:27:09 1706384 Link 0 |
Cruciate injuries tend not to be related to traning regime, gilmores groin injuries are. I have torn my ACL twice, in either knee during club playing career and both times I did so by falling awkwardly, one related to a divot in the pitch and my body turned, foot stayed and ACL snapped. Same thing happened Seamus Kenny, fell awkwardly. Navan (Meath) - Posts: 6 - 25/03/2015 12:50:20 1706396 Link 0 |
yeah good points there lads, your dead right the training seems not to be the cause of ACL injury , I hold my hands up and say I am wrong . I was thinking of the gooch when he got injured as well it was the tackle that did him in. I heard about the blades on the boots a few year back and I stopped wearing them myself . ke40 (Kildare) - Posts: 209 - 25/03/2015 14:47:18 1706443 Link 0 |
more people would do the cruciate ligament in a typical club championship season then an entire premier league season i would estimate..what do people think? fabio8 (USA) - Posts: 2182 - 25/03/2015 16:21:37 1706496 Link 0 |

The best protection against ACL rupture is by building the surrounding musculature. ACL rupture is much less common in Rugby despite the fact that the tackling puts far more strain through the joint. That because the rugby guys practice taking these hits and their muscles are trained to protect the joint. Most GAA ACL injuries happen when a guy is concentrating on the ball and dosnt expect the tackle or the awkward fall. His knee is exposed with the muscle relaxed around it and it just collapses under the pressure. Professional athletes have much better general muscle strength around their knees and expect the tackles to come in when they do. The blades may have a role to play but its far from certain that they are a major factor. jpcampion (Laois) - Posts: 194 - 26/03/2015 10:02:33 1706666 Link 0 |

Guys, i done mine in June past and from looking at my programme and events leading upto it i am fairly convienced that the biggest issue with the ACl and PCl for that matter is squating and over strenghtened calfs and thoighs, especially thihgs, it keeps everything around the joint too tight and allows little to no movement in the joint.. beidhmeanseo (Donegal) - Posts: 137 - 26/03/2015 11:13:13 1706691 Link 0 |
for anybody doing lots of squats, they need to be balanced with twice as much pulling movements - deadlifts, snatches, clean and jerk, clean and press. valley84 (Westmeath) - Posts: 1889 - 26/03/2015 11:47:30 1706703 Link 0 |

colin forde is a galway footballer and wa scaptain of the winning all ireland galway u 21 football team in 2011. shows media do not even have their facts correct on what code some players are aligned. forde was developing into a decent senior full back so very disappointing. kiloughter (Galway) - Posts: 1941 - 28/03/2015 11:14:58 1707198 Link 0 |
