Tyrone v Cork

(Oldest Posts First)

Cork showed great fight in the second half to come back in to the game. They held Tyrone scoreless from play and that's simply not good enough from a Tyrone point of view. Can't find it in me right now to congratulate Cork on a well deserved win as it would seem that a draw might have been the fairest result given that Colm O Neil's last point was by some accounts not a point!! And with Marty Duffy blowing the game up without playing the expected amount of injury time it would seem that he wanted a Cork win as much as the Cork boys!!
I called out the poor officiating in yesterday's game that permitted a Dublin goal so I'm certainly pointing it out today when it meant far more. The score difference was so big yesterday that it didn't matter but today poor officiating has cost us a point at the least.

That sums up a referees life quite well - a team fail to score from play for an entire half of football and yet the poor man in the middle is blamed for the defeat!

Thats not the point Soma. Two days in a row ffs refs have permitted scores that shouldn't have been allowed in Div 1 football.Thats not a petty issue, its very serious, especially so in a tight game like todays.Don't get me started on the time keeping issue.

if my memory serves me rightly theres a bit of history with Marty Duffy and Tyrone that goes back a few years.
the man in the middle cant score or make forwards score but he holds the whisle and has the final say.

Referees make honest mistakes and will continue to make them - unless you accept this then almost every sport will be a huge frustration for you. I saw one of the countrys best forwards hit a 21 yard free into the goalkeepers arms today from almost directly in front of goal. There will be no call for an investigation or for the player to be dropped, yet if a referee makes a mistake there is all sorts of demands made as to what should happen to him. The next day calls may well go Tyrones way, but if they again go 35 minutes without scoring from play they will probably lose anyway.

Main reason Tyrone lost was poor shooting. Still losing a game by a point when one of the final points was wide is poor.

Well done to our hurlers, not being a 'hurling man' I still always keep an eye out for the county teams results as a died in the wool Tyrone man I rejoice in victory for all our county teams, frankly I don't give a **** what code it is as long as they are wearing my beloved red hand. You sir are a phoney, a charlatan, and probably a fecking Derry man at heart.

Was not at match but wondered at the subs On paper look Wierd given the defenders available but perhaps it was the old shooting problem that was being addressed Thought he might have let O' Neill on for 15 min
anyway
Next weeks training all shooting practice and lessons in patience?

No excuses, not good enough! Young pretenders up front go from the absolute sublime to the absolute abysmal every time. They cant be relied upon. Colm O'Neill a different class. I hope he wins an all Ireland with Cork, deserves it!

This could be Colm O'Neills year, as long as he stays fit and focussed he can potentially be one of the greats, he's the footballer I'm most looking forward to watching this year.

McAliskey scored 1-3 off his first 4 touches. McCurry also played very well early on. After that they were starved of possession, or too far back to do anything. Also, I can't imagine shooting is easy after you've just made a 80m lung-bursting run from your own half-back line. It was the older pretenders like Mattie Donnelly and Sean Cavanagh who were most wayward yesterday. Donnelly just had an off-day and is always one of our better players, but Big sean has been playing very poorly all year. Yesterday, had it been anyone else, he would have been taken off. Figuring out where we play him and how to get the best out of him should be one of Mickey's biggest priorites right now.

Interesting that many pundits where proclaiming the death of Gaelic football this time last week because the Dubs failed to break down Tyrone's defensive system. Cork, on the other hand, manage to overturn a five point deficit to snatch a win against the same system. Hopefully those same pundits will now laud cork's tactics and admit that Gaelic football is a vibrant game with plenty of tactical variety.

Thomas Clarke. I'd agree, the players whose shooting has let us down the last 2 games is Mattie Donnelly, Sean Cavanagh and Niall Morgan. Strange but true.

Sean Cavanagh can be excellent either up front as in first 20 minutes against Monaghan or midfield as against Cork but not both. If he is playing around the middle then he doesn't seem to have the energy left to finish off the move with a long range score.

Absoloutely chuffed that we won. Possibly a bit of luck Tyrone yesterday. I guess that is sport. It is swings and roundabouts in a sense. We lost (deservedly) to Mayo last August by one point but there were a couple of crucial decisions went against us in the end. Yesterday we got the breaks but we also scored 16 times to Tyrones 12, kept them socreless for a large portion of the game so in a way it was not a fluke.

We have had a tough league so far. Three away games in Ulster and 2 home games against Kerry and Dublin was the type of fixture list that had me certain we woudl get relegated. To be close to the semis now is a big achievement in itslef. Not getting carried away as we were here exactly last spring as well and it all imploded. but positive so far.

It's worrying how Tyrone can go through long periods of the game without getting a score maybe this is the price to pay for picking hard working half forwards who do so much defensive work. Next fixture against Donegal should suit the way Tyrone are set up and we could win a low scoring game by a couple of points but it's hard to see how far it can take Tyrone in the championship.

Were in Bonus terriority. If we can learn from last year mistakes will be flying. Not bad for team in transition blooding Maguire, the O'Driscoll brothers and now Collins and O'Rourke emerging as leaders for us. Throw in we have the 2 best inside forwards in the country atm in O'Neill and Hurley

Is this defensive game easier to play away from home?
