Easier said than done. If its tried it increases the risk of interception and turnover of possession. I support this chnage, althou in mhy opinion it should be 3 handpasses then kick pass. HenryHill16 (Dublin) - Posts: 249 - 26/02/2015 14:38:44 1697118 Link 0 |
If so then leave football the way it is! ;-) keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 26/02/2015 14:41:38 1697120 Link 0 |

And how in the name of god is a referee meant to enforce that rule? yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11227 - 26/02/2015 15:08:04 1697131 Link 0 |
another thing for the referee to count, great SaffronDon (Antrim) - Posts: 2385 - 26/02/2015 15:37:44 1697139 Link 0 |
Yew Tree is correct.. how in the honour of God is a ref to enforce this... it's not broken.. leave well enough alone Horsebox77 (Kerry) - Posts: 5491 - 26/02/2015 15:38:11 1697140 Link 0 |
I think the "counting" aspect of this would be harder for players than for referees, to be honest. Refs already count the number of steps a player takes & if he hops the ball twice, 3 catches in hurling etc. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 26/02/2015 16:13:22 1697154 Link 0 |
Yew Tree is correct. Preposterous proposal that would be unenforceable. Handpass is not the problem. Bad teams will always make the game look bad no matter what the rules. What is the origin of this motion? I'll bet it is not from any club/county that has remote chance of winning anything! hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 26/02/2015 16:23:42 1697157 Link 0 |
On re-reading I see that I was correct! hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 26/02/2015 16:24:41 1697158 Link 0 |
The refs did a good job on the counting in the international rules. The problem is not the county refs or even the top lads within a county but you will get some refs counting, walking and blowing the whistle could endanger their lives. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1800 - 26/02/2015 16:25:12 1697160 Link 0 |
i think the biggest problem with introducing a rule like this is that it would only encourage 'swarm' type defending. If players knows that the player with the ball can only kick it away then it's going to be even easier to put pressure on him to prevent the kick, leading to more fouling of the ball and an even slower and more cumbersome game. Great idea, bring it in on trial and see if it works, all sports need proactive management to evolve flack (Dublin) - Posts: 1054 - 26/02/2015 17:01:46 1697177 Link 0 |
who came up with this nonsense? fabio8 (USA) - Posts: 2182 - 26/02/2015 21:12:07 1697260 Link 0 |
Only way I could see something like this work i.e. limiting the number of handpasses to whatever, is to introduce the mark to encourage more and better kick passing. moylagh (Meath) - Posts: 484 - 27/02/2015 09:43:54 1697308 Link 0 |

This is presumably a misguided attempt to rescue football from alleged 'negative' tactics. People are forgetting that Donegal have superb players, have huge intelligence on and off the field, and a devastating counter-attack. As had Tyrone when they were accused of negativity when they were successful. hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 27/02/2015 11:07:45 1697329 Link 0 |
Offside, you of all people should realize that attitude accounts for a lot. Hurling as well as football :-) hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 27/02/2015 11:09:12 1697330 Link 0 |
