I just wonder is the level of violence that is now evident inn some games driving our youths away from our Games.
Its not unusual now to see a lot of blood at a games with players needing stiches on the side-line and returning to play again when strapped up.
While it is all very manly in the heat of battle, is it having a negative effect on our young peoples participation in sport.

I doubt it, as a kid I was especially attracted to the bloody rough and tumble of our sports and others!

As an 18 year old, I can say definitely not and it's an aspect of the game that I love.

We're not soccer.

Aw grow up...I played hurling for years without wearing a helmet. Got some injuries like a broken nose but accepted it as part of the game. The game now is much softer than years ago...no way would players be permitted to lift the ball in a ruck if John Doyle or Ringy were around.

I think it makes it more attractive. Rugby and soccer have more injuries.

'Level of violence'???? Are you a headline writer for the Sun? No more than intense hard-hitting encounters. If they put a few kids of GAA it's their loss not the GAAs. A bit more sport and less playstation and I-pads would do wonders for some of your youths fitness, initiative and good manners.

If anything, and I can't speak for all, but young males tend to be attracted to rough games/sports and how many of us thought, as a kid, that being a soldier in the middle of a battlefield was cool. It's in the testosterone! :)

Gaelic games very rarely throw up serious injuries, and they are far cleaner than they were in the past. You should tune in to the debate on rugby where there is serious concern over concussion and long term impact of the sort of contact that happens between players with the conditioning and aggression they have now. Some of their supporters may be effete chaps who never saw a hard day, but it certainly doesn't apply to the men at the coal face. Seriously tough men they are.
