It would be good if mc keirnan came out with a public apology , agree heat of the moment but shouldn't happen . Paul Finley got a longer ban for attempting to strike mc keirnan . hutto (Monaghan) - Posts: 171 - 27/01/2015 15:23:35 1686966 Link 0 |
I agree racial or sectarianism should carry a minimum ban of 6 months from all games county and club. royaldunne (Meath) - Posts: 19449 - 27/01/2015 15:32:12 1686969 Link 0 |
Why has the GAA apologized ? WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 27/01/2015 15:48:15 1686987 Link 0 |
When someone gets slapped with 48 weeks for giving out about a ref on twitter, and a year for playing in a Mickey Mouse tournament in England, a 2 game ban for this is a farce. 6 months minimum. supermon (Monaghan) - Posts: 1073 - 27/01/2015 16:25:10 1687010 Link 0 |
Is calling someone something sectarian, any more abusive that slagging someone for being fat or bald or short or overly tall? hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 27/01/2015 16:26:38 1687014 Link 0 |
why should mc kiernan come out with a public apology? hes apologised to the individual in question and its been accepted is that not enough? Breffni81 (Cavan) - Posts: 181 - 27/01/2015 16:33:10 1687020 Link 0 |
Breffni8 1 , why should the gaa make a public apology ? Mc keirnan is the one who committed the offence. Maybe you would like for the incident to be kept quiet . hutto (Monaghan) - Posts: 171 - 27/01/2015 16:40:28 1687027 Link 0 |
Hurlingdub sectarianist abuse in relation to the religion of a person is particularly nasty. What part of that do you not get ? Greengrass (Louth) - Posts: 6031 - 27/01/2015 16:48:09 1687041 Link 0 |

Lads put it this way, 30 years of trouble here in ireland wasn't caused by red hair or weight issues. It's a particularly sensitive subject that can divide a community and if left unchecked could cause division in the GAA. I remember a story not so long ago of a GAA club player in Fermanagh walking away because of said abuse. supermon (Monaghan) - Posts: 1073 - 27/01/2015 18:18:42 1687104 Link 0 |
Abuse is abuse : referring to someone's family situation etc is no better , obviously sectarian abuse has profound connotations to violence however I wouldn't downgrade family abuse etc below it . It is sadly in most team sports at all levels ! TheRightStuff (Donegal) - Posts: 1688 - 27/01/2015 18:24:39 1687108 Link 0 |
