Its retirement season WHO will you miss?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

What a few months countless names going onto pastures anew in other words back to their beloved clubs , just a few thoughts who will you miss most of all , it would be better if we stayed away from our own counties .
For me and its a very hard choice but tough to know Ill never see Tommy Walsh of Kilkenny rise above someone a player half a foot taller and leave with solitary in hand .Along with Tony Browne of Waterford two players I told my son,s to watch and learn when getting into hurling .
Also can anyone ever remember a year when this many household names moved on , been scratching my head and really cant .

probably because i saw him so regularly in Munster championship matches Eoin Kelly of Tipp. I wont miss him playing against Limerick because he broke my heart so many times, but he was a truly great player. His ability to score points over the shoulder with his back to the posts was wonderful to see. In his prime a few years ago he was exceptional.

Ok hes from my own county but ill miss Seamus Kenny , plagued with injury , came in at end of the great 90s team and while in one all ire never git the medal he so deserved. Great advertising for longevity even when things not going well.

Benny coulter without a doubt. Haven't attended a down match where he hasn't been there. The spark has gone out of down football slightly for me since he left.

Cant believe no one has mentioned Tommy Walsh. Probably the most competitive GAA player left in the game. Him and JJ Delaney are two probably in the top 5 greatest players of all time. Absolute legends. Never see the likes of them again.

Two time all star Barry Owens has left too. One of the best Full backs over the last 15 years. He was more effective the last 3 years in at Full Forward but was still a great player on the edge of the square.

Declan Sullivan no longer the go to man in the Kerry half forward line.

Aye, incredible to think that from now on you'll have no more of Declan's jinking in a Kerry forward line. Like Tomas and Galvin, I thought they would go on forever!

Paddy Keenan. The unluckest captain not to win a Leinster title.

With all the lads hanging up the boots, anyone come up with a 'Retired in 2014 team'?

John Galvin and Paddy Keenan could slot in a midfield for starters.

m_the_d are you putting kavanagh in the forward line?
Yeah when you think about it that team would definitely put it up to the div 4 teams and probably most div 3 teams also.

Oh Declan Sullivan by a country mile, he was one of an elite few that held the ability to single handily change the course of a game, he was unbelievable on the ball, very strong and near impossible to dispossess.. a true class apart...
