RTE Manager of the Year

Good luck to Joe Schmidt. He did a good job with Ireland Rugby. But I wonder why the august Sports editors of our media decided to ignore Brian Cody. He has won 10 All Irelands with Kilkenny.

Has he not won enough!!!
I believe he won this a few years ago anyway!!
10 All-Ireland's yes is a massive achievement but with no little competition only 4 or 5 teams to beat it would be a greater achievement if done in football!!

because only the ai he won this year counts to this years award and winning a six nations with ireland is a harder achievement then an ai with kilkenny imo.

Congrats to joe, he did a fantastic job with the Irish team, hopefully he'll do the same in 2015.

Don't think Cody should have got it. Bringing in Kieran Joyce for the replay was a winning move but bringing on Henry in the drawn game backfired. He's moving towards Hall of Fame territory now though! Think Eamonn Fitzmaurice was a stronger candidate than Cody for the 2014 award to be honest. Kerry played super smart football throughout, minus Colm Cooper to boot.
And even at that Fitzmaurice would have shipped heavy criticism for putting Shane Enright on ahead of Marc O Se to mark Cillian O Connor had they been beaten by Mayo. Imagine had Hennelly's kick not dropped short? We'd be making an argument for James Horan. Fine margins...

Hard to argue with Schmidt really. Could possibly make an argument for Peter Taylor as well. But 1 defeat in 10 tests with a team that is probably really in transition is hard to overlook.

Eh Schmidt won a few friendly rugby matchs. Shocking stuff. Should have been Cody.

Or beven Fitzmaurice. LIke, very few gave Kerry any hope this year and look what they done.

I'd say Kilkenny won more handy matches than the entire Irish rugby team ever will!!!
So on that basis the right man got it!!

has cody won it before?...on the gaa side of things felt fitzmaurice was the best candidate considering he won the all ireland with a very unfancied kerry side....dont think many can begrudge schmidt though hes done a very good job

Cody won 5 matches to win the All Ireland. All of which his side were favourites to win, 2 of which were glorified challenge matches and another two which required replays.

You can diminish anyone's achievement if you wish...

Although the actual winning of trophies is what probably decided it for Schmidt, you cannot question his fantastic year as a MANAGER.

Just look at how many players, who would otherwise be fringe players, he got the absolute max out of: Trimble, D. Kearney, Toner, as well as integrating the younger talents of Ruddock, Henderson, O'Donnell, Olding, etc. .

His man and team management has been absolutely exemplary.

Brian Cody has won a Philips Sports Manager of the year award. Not to my knowledge an RTE Manager of the Year. I mean Davy FitzGerald won it last year! Brian Cody has 10 All Irelands which makes him the greatest GAA manager of all time.

I dont really care who gets this award but the argument of "He should get it because he won X All Irelands" seems a bit silly. Once Cody won 8 after 2011 he held the record, did that mean he was manager of the year? Then get it again once he won 9, and again after he won 10?

If he wins it again next year to have 11 does that mean he is once again manager of the year? It shouldnt be based on dominance over many years, only over that year and that year alone, otherwise Cody would just win every year on account of his All Ireland titles stacking up.

That Brian Cody won 10 all irelands has no relevance on manager of the year for this year
Schmidts work this year deserved huge recognition and Cody will be a contender for manager/coach of the decade...

Who has said he has failed anything? There's nothing wrong with him not getting the award

Eh Schmidt won a 6 Nations title and was unbeaten this year. No way should it have been Cody

Ormond - no expert on the rugby but did England not beat Ireland in the six nations in Feb? Irish rubgy team were not unbeaten all year.
Watched the show sunday nite - without being too bothered about who was given the awards but thought it was pure cringe giving O'Driscoll the lifetime achievement award. Also looked like they were set up to present the team of the year to one of the rugby teams and got a hop when the Cork ladies team topped the vote..Moloney didnt seem to have a clue who Nollaig Cleary was!

There is more to be gained for rte, having a rugby sports manager of the year than there is to having a hurling manager from a county of 60000 people.

I wouldnt belittle cody's achievement it is incredible, and I dont think that he would care that much if he never won an award other than the all ireland.
