With this weekends kildare SFC final Sarsfields play Moorefield and Sarsfields play athy in the minor. The issue here is that 3 sarsfield minors start on the senior team and a few more on the panel. The club tried to get the minor postponed to no avail and the minor is going ahead at 12.15 with senior game at 4.15 with a hurling game inbetween, What are people view on this? and the risk of injury and burnout in young players? kimbra (Wicklow) - Posts: 57 - 17/10/2014 12:02:00 1664623 Link 0 |
I don't think anyone from any club or county can argue this is a ridiculous situation. GetOverTheBar (Tyrone) - Posts: 1388 - 17/10/2014 12:19:26 1664635 Link 0 |
Anyone still eligible for minor should not be allowed line out at adult level. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13692 - 17/10/2014 12:26:08 1664640 Link 0 |
not always feasible not to have minors togging out especially for small clubs more4me (Carlow) - Posts: 96 - 17/10/2014 12:31:45 1664642 Link 0 |
If the club in question is really serious about player welfare, a decision will be taken by the team managements to play these minor players in one of the games only. football first (None) - Posts: 1259 - 17/10/2014 13:12:26 1664666 Link 0 |

It's on issues like this that the GPA should be vociferous.Complete and utter madness, reflecting badly on all parties to this decision. jerryp (Cork) - Posts: 104 - 17/10/2014 13:46:19 1664681 Link 0 |
It would be madness on the part of the these Minors to play both. Minors should be playing with their own age first. Player welfare is the sole responsibility of an adult player, however with Minors/Juveniles coaches/clubs have a huge responsibility too as do parents. arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4892 - 17/10/2014 13:57:24 1664689 Link 0 |
It's hard on the minors who might be asked feature in both games or even forced to sit out one. if_in_doubt (Kildare) - Posts: 3685 - 17/10/2014 14:08:41 1664694 Link 0 |
MesAmis - thats u-12 mentality. give a lad a game bacuse of his age. when you are playin senior you play to win. if that means gettin you local 17 year olds then thats what you do. it happened in carlow a few years ago where rathvilly had a team in the senior and minor final and the cb changed the minor to accomadate the players that were also playing senior more4me (Carlow) - Posts: 96 - 17/10/2014 14:43:03 1664706 Link 0 |

more4me - thats not just u12 mentality, thats a mentality that says that you value the contribution everyone makes in the club and the more players you have playing and the longer they play the greater their contribution allround to the club. Minors will most likely play School, Minor and U21, as an adult you may only have one grade to play. I have never seen too many minors out selling tickets, lining pitches etc keeping people involved in the clubs is vital and the easiest way to do that is keep them playing. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1790 - 17/10/2014 14:57:14 1664715 Link 0 |
I see some are disagreeing with each other, I'm totally for the good enough old enough theory, on burnout some soccer play have 120 minutes at times and the minors have atleast an hours break kimbra (Wicklow) - Posts: 57 - 18/10/2014 18:05:54 1664997 Link 0 |

What would ye think of a dual underage player playing 50 plus games in an 8 month period? old yellar (None) - Posts: 2625 - 18/10/2014 21:59:58 1665062 Link 0 |
50 games in 8 months is an average of 6 a month or 3 every 2 weeks. Should be quite ok provided sufficient rest and recovery takes place between games and there's a decent break after the 8 months. jerryp (Cork) - Posts: 104 - 19/10/2014 11:39:23 1665083 Link 0 |
Simple solution to this age old problem, play the U-16 final as the curtain raiser each year. 1914 (Clare) - Posts: 92 - 19/10/2014 14:50:41 1665138 Link 0 |
