Ulster the only open Draw.

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

What struck me last night was the different bowls in Munster and Leinster. In Munster they didn't seed kerry and Cork but they might as well had. Why should Cork and Kerry get a bye into the semi final? The Draw should have been open so Kerry and Cork could go in the Quarter final in Munster. Then Leinster you have your 4 semi finalists from last year seeded. Connacht was baffling considering onside of the draw was already completed (bar Sligo) before the televised draw, Galway have to play 3 games to get to a Connacht final yet Sligo and Ma1yo only have to win 1. Ulster was pot luck to see who ya got and hence yet again ulster makes the championship worth looking at prior to the All ireland quarter finals.

But Munster was open this year? Wasn't it just luck that Cork and Kerry were on a diff side?

Well openish there was two with Tipperary,Waterford,Clare and Limerick, these teams where drawn to play each other in the quarter finals. when that draw was completed. There was a second draw in this bowl there was Cork,Kerry,Quarter final 1 and Quarter final 2. By putting Cork and Kerry in the second pot they reduced the possibility of Cork and Kerry meeting prior to the final.

Due to the draw this means Cork,Kerry,Mayo and Sligo are guaranteed the qualifiers in round 2. While Donegal could beat Tyrone lose to Armagh and be in round 1. Just like the teams in the Leinster preliminary rounds. This is totally unfair. If Kerry and Cork played in the first round in Munster and Kerry lost they could get Tyrone or Donegal for arguments sake and be knocked out early. This biased draw in Connacht and Munster in particular is wrong.

County championships choose their own structure. Provincial championships choose their own structure. County championship produce one winner. Provincial championship produce one winner. With the back door their is more a question to be asked regards where teams enter the championship. Replacing rounds 3 and 4 of the qualifiers with a Round of 16 would streamline the championship better for all counties.

While the Leinster and Munster championships are seeded to ensure the beast teams avoid the early rounds, should Ulster not do the same.

No point complaining how unfair it is that Kerry, Cork, Dublin etc avoid the early championship rounds when the Ulster council could do something similar to ensure Donegal and Tyrone (most likely Ulster All Ireland winners) get an easier draw.

If you can't beat them, join them. Otherwise just get on with it and accept the things you cannot change.

Ulster should just follow Leinsters lead. Have the 4 semi finalists from the previous year seeded in the QF.

Time for an open draw.imagine trying to explain this format to somebody unfamiliar with the gaa and the historical significance of each province. The 4 cups could still be competed for in 4 groups of 8.Keep the qualifiers as is. Whole things a joke as it stands.

An open draw is a fair call but is there a need when two qualifier rounds can have the championship at a Round of 16 stage by the end of the provincial finals?

Ignore them. Theyre just annoyed because they thought kerry were finished.
It was a fantastic all Ireland for ye. Ye beat Donegal at their own game. If thats not worth praise I dont know what is.

Well if anyone would know its you handymoran. You seem to have a bit of an obsession with the Kingdom.
Do you think Kerry would struggle in Connaught? I dont.

This presumably is the same Clare that ran Kerry to 3 points and Kildare to 1, will be playing Division 3 football next year and are attracting All Ireland medal winners to their ranks? Or maybe it's another Clare who are a softer touch than eh, New York...

Why should we seed are draws its the beauty of our province its a battle from day one, why should the same teams get to be in the final all the time. The provincial draw is some counties is worse than the budget last week protect the big boys.
