Leinster QF and Semi out of Croker please.

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Lets try and spice up the worst province in the Country. Looking at the 2015 draw:
Play the winner of the Longford/Offaly game against Dublin in Portlaoise. Prob better than giving Longford/Offaly home advantage as it has a 25k capacity (slightly more I think). For starters it's not fair either team having to go to Dublin to play Dublin but the real issue here is trying to minimize the margin of defeat for whoever has to face Dublin.

The semi final of Dublin v Kildare/Laois should be played in Croker that's a no brainer.

On the other side, I hope to God Meath have home advantage v Wicklow. We played them away in 2013 so it's out turn at home now. And personally it's been something like 17 years since we had a Leinster match in Meath.

Now thew winner of that will play Louth/Westmeath/Wexford. If it's Meath v Louth play it in Croker double header with Dublin v Kildare/Laois. But if it's a pairing like Meath v Wexford or Wicklow v Wexford play it in a country venue. The atmosphere at Meath v Wexford 2013 was dire. Sick of playing in Croker when the 2 teams together have less than 15k there.

You have the right idea about quarter and semi finals away from Croke Park but the powers that be won't allow this to happen. Money is what they worry about not results or winning margins. The GAA would play any double header in Croke Park with Dublin taking part as they have massive support, if they could get away with it they would only allow Dublin to play 35 mins of football and then play the 2nd half a week later just to make money. In the other 3 proviences it's usually a rotation system that is used for finals with most counties with large capacity grounds hosting them, it's time for Leinster to do the same

Everyone seems to want this except the GAA. We know Dublin would win the games anyway but it would give weaker counties a chance at least. The games would be sell-outs too, which would be great for the towns in which the games will be played

Surely they'll give us a game outside Croker Portlaois Longford or Tullamore would be rocking if we went down there.

Dublin will play their QF in Croker next year, personally I couldn't give a toss anyway because they'll be in the Leinster final next year regardless, as for us, we haven't played a home game in Leinster since 1995 (I think it was) but to be honest Croker suits me better anyway, it's closer and the bus goes past me shed, yep it's all about me :-)

That match should be played in Aughrim and we should have a ten point head start as well.

Would probably still lose though.

Have they fixed the scoreboard in Aughrim yet?? Awful consternation there about that in 2013 when we visited, would love to think this game would be in Navan but I severely doubt it

A lot of sense in that OP that the Leinster council will surely ignore.
No excuse for Offaly/Longford v Dublin to be in CP. Absolutely none. How much more money would they make anyway?
The Leinster semi definitely should not be a double header. A likely tie between Meath and Wexford will be lost in CP and those who are there will be diluted by Dublin and Kildare fans coming and going.

Unfortunately

This was put to the vote amongst all Leinster CB's

It got 2 votes - the chance was there to do this and it wasn't passed.

2 votes to move Dublin out of early games...

Says it all

Would love to see the QF taken out of Croker but then again who will finance the shortfall?

who will finance the shortfall? The shortfall in reality goes to pay Dublin coaches to train Dublin kids. It's not like the rest of us will get better or worse if the games played out of croker. The reality is investment in the rest of leinster will result in a competitive and exciting province that in turn will greatly boost the attendances at matches.

The current system where one team has everything in it's favor has no potential to grow. It would be like Ireland Rugby playing the likes of spain, russia, canada etc all the time in rugby. people just won't care.

This is of no wrong doing of Dublin. The dinosaur county boards around Leinster are very unlikely to ever vote the game outside of croker. i get the feeling most of them just don't care anymore and have just given up at county level football.

And just to point out the shortfall is not massive in anyway.

Jack give it a rest man...

It'll only be for one flipping game anyway!

All the rest would still be in Croker

The decision was made by all Leinster CB's to keep Dublin in CP for the Quarter Finals

I really don't see the point in continually bringing up a topic that has already been tabled by the Leinster council

The chance was there and it wasn't taken

In fact it was overwhelmingly rejected.

yeah that or play the winner of longford/ofally in portlaoise. A ground between the 2 counties. EIther way the alst thing I want is Meath playing a match in croker unless it's the leinster final or a louth/meath derby.

I think it would actually suit Dublin to play outside of Croker and also the other counties. It would bring colour and excitement to Mullingar, Tullamore, Port Laois wherever.

Navan or Newbridge are in no condition to host well attended championship games; in my view they are in no condition to host intercounty championship games period. It should be based around attendance, and attendance alone, and not some half baked notion that Dublin must move out of HQ in the early rounds.

If Kildare and Meath met early and were in the position to pull 50k then the match should be in Croker. Its a no brainer, and the same applies to Dublin. I don't see why Dublin v Meath or Kildare should be fixed out of Croke Park when we do not have another stadium to cater for the demand. However, if Dublin play Longford next June then that game should be fixed in Nowlan Park etc or even Pearse Park if Dublin agree to it as its unlikely the crowd would be significant in Croker.
