Would brolly be saying that if Donegal won?
Do ye agree with him? I dont.
Foe me, the 2001 (great for me, a galwayman, but a poor game),2003,2004,2006,2007,2012 finals were no better, and thats just since the 2000s.

In 2001 in fairness only one team showed up, but grim was 2008 and then 2012 just redeemed by two fantastic goals but I think this years surpasses anything I've ever seen so far. Just hope the bottom has been finally reached.

2005 - a great player getting a poke in the eye.

It was definitely up there but Mayo's capitulation after 5mins in the noughties was terrible also.

2013 was awful once the mayo challenge ended, which was in the 25th minute. The second half was characterized by stoppages and more stoppages. This year was awful because it was played at a walking pace sometimes. 2012 was boring. 2010 was a spiritless game. 2009, 2007, 2006, 2004 were the 4 finals that kerry had absolutely no opposition and thus were bad games. 2001 was shocking. 1999 was probably the worst ever (meath and cork). In fact, it is rare to get a really good final. I think that it is more common to get a great semi or quarter final, or provincial. The odds are too big for a final and teams are nervous.

GALWAY v Dublin 1983. Still remember that one Dublin and Galway supporters???? Have seen finals for years and one of the worst ever. Was it four or five who were sent to the line??? Know DUBLIN FINISHED WIYH 12 men. Game played in a bad spirit, player kicking another one, Tunnell bust up and Galway player unable to continue come second half as a result of the tunnell bust up. I fully understand a lot of posters on here would not remember it as they would have been too young or not yet born. But try get a DVDs of it and see for yourselves before running down the finals over the last 14 years.
So that's it

WORST FINAL EVER. DUBLIN V GALWAY1983.

I agree with Fabio regarding the 2008 final. That was one of the best ones that I can remember.

Does anybody remember 1995? That Dublin team had been involved in more great games than most teams but often came up short. They simply had to win in 1995 and they got there in the end (deservedly) but to me it was a very poor game. I think Tyrone got two scores from play. I think Dublin may have scored three points from play and scrappy goal. It was relieve for the Dubs but average enough game.

The 2004, 2006 and 2007 finals were not great spectacles as the losers in that game were beat clean out the gate. They were exhibitions from Kerry really.

1995 was a woeful game.Charlie Redmond got sent off,but bizarrely continued to play on for a few minutes, until he was asked to leave the field for a second time.Still,we endured a lot of heartache with that team,so we were more relieved than anything,to finally get over the line.

Thought the 2000 and 2001 finals were very good. Everyone playing man to man, plenty hard hitting and some great scoring.

1995 - bad final alright only livened up by the bould Charlie wha!

2003 - Very close and intriguing but poor enough at times for. A late block by Conor Gormley being the only moment that stands out for me.

2004 - Poor enough spectacle as Mayo failed to show up really.

2006 - Ditto but even worse than 2004

2007 - Ditto but replace Mayo for Cork

2012 - Over after 15 mins or so

2013 - Close but again neither sides best performance.

2014 - Close but a lot of individual errors leading to scores etc

1980 Ros V Kerry generally regarding as one of the worst ever, too young to really remember much of it.

I'd say it might be easier to name the best finals rather than the worst as by and large AI final day can be a damp squib given the stakes. Looking back IMO the 2005 and 2002 finals were the last great showcase finals in terms of quality, excitement and both games being in the balance right to the end. Everything else was so so.

finals dont generally be fantastic matches though in all fairness
the problem with this years was that it lacked intensity and pace and most things you associate with the game
in other years we have been treated to some outstanding semi finals
hence why the finals rarely live up to that again

2013, muck! Considering what those two counties produced last September I had to laugh being on here over the last week and seeing some Dublin and Mayo posters harping on because Kerry didn't serve up more attacking football in one final.

Let he who is without sin....

What a truly rubbish post. Why start such a negative thread ? Why not say the same about the 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 hurling finals ?

Disagree. I was at the game. While it was not for the purist, mainly because it was played in atrocious conditions, it was a close, hard hitting contest with plenty of great individual battles. It had controversy, sendings off, tunnel fracas etc but that match also delivered the greatest goal ever scored in an AI final, Barney Rock's brilliant strike from 45 yards or so. It also immortalised the Dubs' 'dirty dozen'.

Unless of course you are Pat Spillane, and then it maters very much about the quality of football as well as the result!
