If I win a free in my own half and I stand with the ball for more than ten seconds or so, the ref will blow and it will be a hot ball. Why then are teams allowed to put ball down, call for their keeper , who will take the best part of 30-40 seconds to walk up the field and have a go at goal. Is there a rule that when the ball is being kicked off the ground you can take as long as you want? FrChewyLooey (Leitrim) - Posts: 123 - 22/09/2014 13:00:31 1655265 Link 0 |

You are correct about the free taking FrChewy. I am very surprised that we haven't yet seen a corner forward going back to take kickouts late in a game as a timewasting exercise - I imagine this will be inevitable when the clock comes in. There is nobody calling for a split because there is no difference in raw materials available. In other words most other counties could put in exactly what Kerry put in as regards man power and resources. Therefore they can be caught. However, if they had one third of the population and multiples of everyone elses resources, it would be a different matter. How can you not see the distinction there? Back to the free though. Whats the difference between a free on your own 13 yard line and one in front of the opposing goals. Is there a specific rule saying you can take as long as you want once you are having a go at goal. Be interesting to see alright if a forward went back to take a kick out!! I know in rugby you have a minute to take a kick (AT GOAL) once the clock is back on. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5518 - 24/09/2014 10:53:35 1656426 Link 0 |
