Watching hurling since the late 80's so my list is dcb (Kilkenny) - Posts: 26 - 16/09/2014 10:35:26 1652540 Link 0 |
I've seen action from hurling matches from the 1960s on TG4 and the standard was shocking. Most of the players could barely puck the ball out of their way. From what I've seen, the standard seemed to rise from the 1970s on with the emergence of very skilful Kilkenny and Cork teams that decade, and it's been improving ever since. ballydalane (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1246 - 16/09/2014 10:47:47 1652548 Link 0 |
Ballydalane, you're not comparing like for like and of course hurling is entirely different to what it is today and in twenty years time some might see todays games as 'shocking' can't even handpass to a teammate etc, etc. bricktop (Down) - Posts: 2503 - 16/09/2014 12:11:44 1652599 Link 0 |
I think it's more realistic to divide Kilkenny into 2 eras, 98-2005 and 2006-14. Although I'd say the latter were better and more successful, I preferred watching the former, a more open style, less physical maybe, but with more stylish' hurlers like mcevoy, larkin, byrne, Carter who weren't around later flack (Dublin) - Posts: 1054 - 16/09/2014 12:13:45 1652601 Link 0 |
