After the recent epic hurling final and football semis, what other past games to people fondly remember? Mine would be

Kilkenny V Galway 2005
Cork V Waterford 2006 (Semi)
Armagh V Tyrone 2005 (Semi)
Dublin V Kerry 2007
Dublin V Tyrone 2005 (Drawn Game)
Down V Kildare 2010 (Semi)
Munster Hurling final 2003.

Probably not old enough to remember any thrillers from 90's but the 1998 football final and 1999 hurling final were quite good.

The 2009 league final between Tipp and Kilkenny in Thurles was out of this world. Eddie Brennans point to seal it. WOW. The day were Richie Hogan hit 1.10 from the bench and Seamus Callanan put Brian Hogans lights out. It had everything, Shefflin was even sent off.

Two games I had a pleasure to be at while I was in Croke Park was the Hurling All Ireland semi-final between Galway and Kilkenny in 2005 and the All Ireland football semi-final between the Dubs and Mayo in 2006.

Meath v Roscommon 1991 S/F

thought we were going to do it Derek Duggan and Eamon McManus on fire in the first half, were about 10 points up, Paul Earley had a great goal chance to put us out if sight, McQuillan saved. Tommy Dowd got a goal for Meath and put on a master class in the second half.

1998 Connacht Final and replay, went in with little hope, then blatant free in front of goal 30m out and ref didn't give it,(also game had surely one of the quickest sendings off ever, Jason Neary ran on a sub, with 30 sec he had punched someone and got a straight red). Replay in the Hyde went to extra time, first minute of ET Derek Thompson went to pass across the goal and passes it straight to Michael Donnellan, never got back into it after that.

Fondly and remember aren't normally two words we get to put together but it has to be the semi and final in 1989. Watched the semi at home and won't forget Cloots goal while on his knees nor the way Offaly and the crowd gave an ovation to the players at the end. Then the final which I got a ticket for and although we were tanked it still holds very fond memories and pride for what this great group had achieved.

Forgotten classics - Galway mayo in 98 and the drawn and replayed Connacht final against the sheep stealers from 98. All of a sudden people started taking notice of Galway football again and was the start of a mini golden period for us.

Limerick v Clare 1995 hurling semi final
Wexford v Cork 2003 drawn game
Tipp v Clare 2001 was a knife edge game

Limerick v Tipp the Trilogy in 2007
Tipp v Cork 1991 both games
Limerick v Tipp 1996 Munster Final

Clare v Tipp 1997 AI Final ( Even the camera's missed the point of the year by Ollie Baker to draw the game after Tipp's 2nd goal )

Tipp v Cork 2000 Munster Final I thought was an epic game.

Strange that a lot of the great games Tipp lost!!!

Galway v Kerry 2008 Q-Final,
Galway v Kerry 2000 Final and replay
Kerry v Armagh 2000 Semi, draw and replay
Kerry v Armagh 2006 Q-Final
Kerry v Cork MSF Final replay 2010

Never see many of these games mentioned in best games of modern era (but then again any game Kerry win is never considered a classic by the media).

Although I'm more of a Big Ball fan, 3 games that spring to mind for me are all hurling ones.
1996 Leinster final Offaly v Wexford
1999 All-Ireland semi-final Offaly v Cork
2000 All-Ireland semi-final Offaly v Cork

Excuse the fact that these are all Offaly games, but they're just the ones i'm recalling now at this moment. We actually lost the first two of those, but winning in 2000 was particularly sweet as I watched the game in a bar in Cork. Great days. Unlikely I'll be seeing them anytime soon again.

Still getting over that loss to Meath in 2001. :( 2003 was worse again though. I'm too hungover for these memories today..

Is the title slightly oxymoronic? If they were classics, would we forget them?

Glen Rovers v Sarsfields - 1989 county final - Glen going for their first title in 15 years, Sars their first in 37 years - 30,000 in attendance-6 goal classic - John Fitzgibbon was the difference...bet most of ye forgot that..
