Should Finals be concluded on the day ?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

What an absolutely brilliant game, For the third year in a row, A final has gone to a replay. Outstanding entertainment. I pose the question though, Is it fair on players and fans of the participating counties that they have to make the trip again in a few weeks time for the replay ?

For us as neutrals its fantastic, Its another 70 minutes of action. But for those who spent 80 quid on tickets alone today (stand) , To be expected to pay that sort of money again with travel and accomodation on top of it ? Just seems a bit unfair.

For me, Finals should be sorted on the day. Just my opinion though.

don't think tipp would have fancied going to penalties.

Yes they should, or at least next sunday. Why the long wait? Tickets will be half price anyway for replay. Not fair on players and club set up.

I agree finals should finish on the day. Play ET and see if we can have a winner on the first day and if it's still level after that then so be it

Definitely should go to extra time. FA Cup, Champions League etc go to extra time. Club championships will be pushed out well into late October in these counties. All championship games should go to extra time. The 1st round games use to.

Another point aside, didn't like the way Richie Power tried to break Tipp's momentum going down with cramp. KK employed this along with hauling players down in front of goal. Cynical tactics but what else would you expect

When I ask myself what is the purpose of replays - I struggle for a logical answer.

If it's more ticket sales, it seems a multi game series should be played from the start - if it's to determine who wins and who goes home, then why isn't extra time used on the day ?

Some of the Radio 1 discussion today revolved around this point - how are the players supposed to come down from the high of today, and regroup/ build up anew for the next day -
it's crazy, I don't have an answer - does anyone ?

Yep lads agree.

If its a draw after extra time then fair enough, But just go to ET, play an extra 10 each way and see if the sides can be seperated.

Absolutely agree.

I dont see the point in replays other than the fact its another money making scheme (Sure what else would it be i suppose).

I'm sure the players would love to get it done on the day.

Fans wont have to spend money on another day out by sorting it there and then on the day.

Must be mentally and physically draining for the players.

Who in their right mind you not want to see another day of that! Same with last year.. Everyone's a winner with these replays.

I think its a fair point in fairness.

Its not about making it like soccer FFS.

It doesnt add to the GAA, The only thing it does is screw people of more money for tickets, travel expenses and accomodation while lining the pockets of the GAA

Its so obvious that a draw was what was being played for aswell with only 1 minute of added time, Crazy.

I just dont see why a final has to go to a replay automatically, An extra 20 minutes could have seen a winner today.

It would also mean that players would have had a result today and wouldnt have to prepare for another 3 weeks of hard training and another 70 minute game.

I firmly believe All Ireland final's and Indeed Semi-final's etc should be concluded on the day.

Play the 20 mins extra time, and if its still level after the 20 mins, next score wins during the Injury period.

Can anyone tell me why the replay is not next Saturday/Sunday? Like if this was a provincial final or semi, it would be? Makes no sense to me.

So now the bull can tell when a player is inured. The bull, I don't recall any comment from you when Richie Power nearly got his ankles broken when straight through on goal against Limerick. Yet another Tipp cheerleader from Cork, tis what ye've been doing best for the past five years.

So we should wrap her up on the day cause there's lads who have taken the next day off to go on the lash and its a waste if its a draw

I agree Ban. It's all about the drink... Interesting how you took that from my observation.

Nah kiddo, can't beat the old replay, I think replay tickets are always cheaper and Dublin is no journey for tipp and Kilkenny.
