Anthony Daly steps down as Dublin manager

(Oldest Posts First)

Looks like Anthony has stepped down:

What do people think, had he more to offer, or was it the right time to go? I'm not sure myself, he's going to be hard to replace. But it does look like the panel needs a new approach. Who are the contenders to take over?

Daly can go with his head held high, six years is a long time. It is very difficult to fully grasp his tenure, for at times it was frustrating and other times brilliant. For me he brought a level of expectation and raised the quality and profile of the sport in Dublin. It was probably time for him to go as in he felt he had taken them as far as he could. A big factor I believe was the failure to entice some of the talented duel players to hurling, not his fault. I look at most of the names of the guys who have gone to football and they haven't a prayer of making that football team.

Rumours have it Liam Sheedy is being courted, no idea if thats just idel speculation.

was defo time to go
he initialy brought belief to the panel
but last year was defo a swansong
we need a dublin man at the helm
somebody who is involved in dublin club scene and knows the younger players that have been coming through
for me shay boland is the obvious man
he managed the minors to two all ireland finals
and managed the under 21s last year

All the best to Anthony and many thanks!
The words of arock have summed it up well!
Took the team as far as he could for sure but needs a new voice at the helm now!

Daly can leave with his head held high. Bought this team as far as he could and at least got some reward with NHL 1A & 1B plus a Leinster title.

Also if you told me back in 2008 that Dublin would play in 2 AI Semi Finals I'd have thought you'd be off your rocker.

Will he go for the Galway job now anyone think ? Closer to home and all that...

His a character and a gent and will be missed from the sidelines in 2015.

Shay Boland could the man as mentioned to take over Dubs seniors.Done great work underage past couple of years.

Word is players and board are looking for a Dublin man to bring them on, also a Dublin man would be be able to work around the hurling and football thing. Think a Dublin man is the right step as we need to be building our own structures across the board.

Daly era strange one. 2 steps forward followed by one step back.

I think it was time to go alright, we need a different perspectI've, the team was getting stale, too much loyalty to certain players. I'd like to see a trawl like jbm and justin McCarthy did of all junior/intermediate clubs, see can we unearth any diamonds like they did. Daly deffo brought us on leaps and bounds, gave us self belief, for which I'd like to thank him, and some magic moments, like the run last year

Dublin are a hurling county because of Daly, they'd won nothing for decades until he arrived, let's hope he's not their Alex Ferguson, i.e. can't be replaced successfully.
That said, it's an ageing Dubs team - lads like Keaney , Hiney, Joey Boland, Dotsy etc. seem to be around forever - who maybe had their best chance of the big one in either 2011 ( running Tipp close in the semi having won the League )or last year when the O'Dwyer sending-off changed the Cork semi.
Could see Daly going back to Clare esp. if Davey keeps peeing people off.

its a very tempting job for the likes of sheedy,if nothing else but for the financial element!

but joking aside, whoever they bring in needs to try to sort out the dual player,if indeed it can be sorted out.

Great man and he will always have a place in the Dublin fans hearts for what he achieved with us and how much he brought the Dublin Hurlers on.

Wishing him all the best.

Cheers Dalo. Thanks a mill.

Is it that tempting a job though? Did Dalo get all that was in this team out of it? As long as Dublin hurling lose dual players to the football, it's a very tough ask for somebody to win more with this team.

Was time to go

What a job the man has done. I will be forever greatful to him for giving me years I really thought I was never going to see. 4 leinster finals in 6 years winning 1, a national league title and 2 all Ireland semis, and very very close to a final

A gentleman a great hurling man I wish hhim all the best

Surely Galway will snap him up. And if they do I for one will fancy them for an all Irweland under him
