He shouldn't. He's done a great job with Mayo, unlucky today.

Wether he should or shouldn't doesnt come into it mate, Bottom line is it's looking likely that he will.

You're probably right Wayno, a bit soon to say though. Just pointing out that I think he's done a great job, big shoes to fill if he leaves.

This kind of talk is unfair. James Horan has done some great things both as a player and a manager. Personally I would like to see him remain on.

He will go, he's done as much as he could. Time for new blood in every way :)

James has done a great job with Mayo but he has taken them as far as he can unfortunately for them.
You can see all the pressure has got to him also. Not easy.

McStay will be a cert for the job.

It really is bad form to start talking about who is next so soon after the game. It does show a real lack of class. *Applauds sarcastically towards OP*

Horan did a mighty job with Mayo. I was first impressed by him when I saw his side knock the Munster runners-up out of the championship in the '11 quarter-finals. We had their measure in the '11 semi-final but I left Croke Park that day saying to the lads, Mayo are building something there, they'll challenge for an All-Ireland in the next two years.

Mayo duly did challenge for the All-Ireland in '12 and '13, unfortunately for them as everyone knows, missing out on the top prize on both occasions. I felt '12 was a bit too soon. Donegal were there and Donegal were deserved winners. Last year had to have been Mayo's year. The All-Ireland was their's for the taking. Unfortunately on the day of the All-Ireland it slipped away from them. The capital, as they did in '11 against us, seized the day. '13 was the one that was left behind from a Mayo perspective and the one I'm sure there will be the most regrets about.

The only other thing I'll say is that Mayo have not gone away. A discussion for another day.

Just stay away from Tommy Lyons!

Hopefully Jim McGuinness will be available for Mayo after today! ;-)

Best wishes to him. Last year was mayos year to win. It was never going to be easy this year. I said last year the ship had sailed and I don't see how they'd win next year either.

People of Mayo should let him know if its time , they above anyone else are in a position to judge , for me an outsider I think he's been tremendous but unfortunately we live in a society were winning seems to be all that matters , Dermot Early who how many all Irelands ? John Mulane ? Were they losers ?
Credit hes built a fine side thats been the bounce of a ball away from glory but thats sport .

Thanks to James for the last four years. He said his aim at the start was to make Mayo competitive again and that he did just a shame for him and is we couldn't win an All Ireland. I wish him and his family all the best for the future.

No doubt he has brought them on leaps and bounds but he has had an exceptional group of players there. IMO they should have two sams at this stage. If you were being absolutely clinical with your analysis you might say that he should have done better given the talent at his disposal. He has made them a top 3 side though and a strong Connaught county is essential for the game.

Likely replacements?...
McStay
Lyons? Good Lord!
Tommy Carr

Maybe Tommy Carr might be available after his top class analysis on the game yesterday, he may take Marin Carney with him as an assistant, but both would be a major loss to RTE.

Fair play to Horan, he gave it all as a player and manager for Mayo.

You couldn't blame him for resigning. I'd say he was embarrassed about how the game ended. For him I'd say it left a bad taste in his mouth.

James Horan goes out with his reputation intact, he comes across as a real gentleman.

Wishing him every success in the future.

Mayo are only short 2-3 players and with the recent under age success I believe they can lift Sam in the next three years.
