Maybe Im just cranky because Galway lost ( but then again I knew they would) but I have to say that this championship has been thoroughly uinspiring, quite like the last few. Cant remember the last time a game really got my blood flowing. Even on the rare occasion when games are tight theres something dull about the whole thing. Maybe this obsession with tactics and winning at all costs is finally beginning to have an effect on the game as a whole. Most of the best games seem to happen in the qualifiers between teams who haven't a hope of winning the thing in the first place.. I think that 2010 was the last time that a football championship really caught my imagination. 2011 and 2012 weren't great although the 2011 final was one of the greats imo. I remember the 2009 season was very bad too. joncarter (Galway) - Posts: 2692 - 03/08/2014 18:31:04 1630807 Link 0 |

Jon Carter I agree 100%, this championship has bored me to death, I'm a Kerry man but again today we had a game that will be forgotten about by tomorrow morning and this in a Q-Final. Too many foregone conclusions, too many games where you know the outcome before the week of the game rolls round. Too long in between games, I love the GAA but I am really fed up with Championship football these days. dolfos (Longford) - Posts: 109 - 03/08/2014 18:56:08 1630831 Link 0 |
Speak for yourself, the 2009 season was fantastic for me (spent in a drunken haze) sponger (Wicklow) - Posts: 2897 - 03/08/2014 18:56:57 1630833 Link 0 |
Either last year or this year. Boring in general. Even the better games are lacking in excitement. Very few star players out there at present, and any there are are finding it very difficult to shine. icehonesty (Wexford) - Posts: 2550 - 03/08/2014 18:57:43 1630834 Link 0 |
Once again, people have got to realize they cant have the best of both worlds. There is no time or space on the ball now at all. Even if you were the most skillful player in the country you cant go thru 3 people and come out the other side with a ball. Unfortunately the games have to be this way if teams are going to compete at the very top level. Donegalman (None) - Posts: 3830 - 03/08/2014 19:06:09 1630843 Link 0 |
There have been a few good game but way way more duds. The Cork Mayo game today was close but Mayo always looked like winning. RTEs only good game this year was Tyrone v Down. Dublins games have been predictably one sided, 4 terrible provincial finals, lots of tactics, not much passion. a few good games in the qualifiers between the also rans. The Gooch tweeted yesterday that the champo has been poor. There has been no atmosphere at games. joncarter (Galway) - Posts: 2692 - 03/08/2014 19:07:02 1630844 Link 0 |

There are obviously a lot of people on here who did not watch championship football in the late 1980s. The Meath-Cork era was atrocious. There have been some bad games and good games this year, just like any other. This weekend in particular has seen some very interesting games petejoeduff (Donegal) - Posts: 329 - 03/08/2014 19:15:40 1630855 Link 0 |
One thing I'll say is sometimes I watch modern football and ask myself what the hell has happened to our game, but don't worry joncarter the Dubs will save the championship like they always do. clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 03/08/2014 19:20:56 1630860 Link 0 |

2011 appeared to be this thing called a soft All-Ireland until the Dubs grabbed control of the game and seized the day. Overall it was a hard fought for and deserved championship for them. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 7842 - 03/08/2014 19:24:50 1630864 Link 0 |
Four enjoyable games this weekend.Even accounting for the dreadful weather yesterday, and the rather sparce attendances, the entertainment was satisfactory. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 03/08/2014 19:27:28 1630866 Link 0 |
The games today were brilliant IMO. I was worried Kerry was going to cruise to a 12,13, or 14 point win but that turned out to not be the case PoppinPoints (Meath) - Posts: 225 - 03/08/2014 19:30:10 1630870 Link 0 |
What are you on about commercials? Im talking about THIS years championship. The fact that you have to refer to last year merely reinforces my point. Besides, ONE good game doesn't make a good championship. (Croquet he says......) joncarter (Galway) - Posts: 2692 - 03/08/2014 19:31:23 1630873 Link 0 |
Think that overall it has been good enough and fairly competitive ( no need to point out obvious exception to me) seadog54 (Meath) - Posts: 2142 - 03/08/2014 19:35:46 1630877 Link 0 |
That Mayo Cork was decent when it finally took off. There's a gulf in class between Division 1 and the rest though. Armagh at the moment being an honourable exception, though we'll see how long that lasts... roundball (Tipperary) - Posts: 2514 - 03/08/2014 19:38:04 1630882 Link 0 |
I don't think this years championship has been anything special, in general there hasn't been any shocks and were left with the usual at the business end of the championship Dublin, Kerry, mayo and Donegal meathalltheway (Meath) - Posts: 789 - 03/08/2014 19:45:40 1630895 Link 0 |
