So Clare are going with Davy for another three years. Was speaking to one clare man last week who will be very unhappy with this decision. ritchie (Cork) - Posts: 346 - 29/07/2014 09:48:26 1627765 Link 0 |
Was that same Clare man unhappy last September?? All Ireland's haven't been in plentiful supply in Clare since 1884, Davy's personality mightn't be to everyone's liking but last year he got them an All Ireland and has a proven track record as a manager, given Dublin's recent demise I'm sure many would like to see Anthony Daly as manager but Davy deserves more time, we all know how hard two in a row is to achieve (unless your Kilkenny) and I'm sure Clare celebrated in style, they still defended their crown with honour and will certainly be in the mix for honours next year Richieq (Meath) - Posts: 3734 - 29/07/2014 09:57:50 1627771 Link 0 |
Supporters are so fickle is laughable. Davy has been great for Clare and in my opinion is the second best Hurling Manager in the game of Hurling. Clare will be back with a bang next year. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11230 - 29/07/2014 10:34:49 1627790 Link 0 |

All managers recognise that praise is fickle, he was the hero last September after wining the All Ireland for the 4 time in Clare's history and after a gap of 16 baron years. Yes this year did not go well, but you get the feeling that the knockers that had been silenced last September were only waiting for their chance. We know he can be fiery on the side line and do get up peoples noses but his has a proven record in getting results. Other counties have had great success at under 21 level but have failed to deliver at senior level so what Clare achieved under the management of Davie must not be under estimated. Very few teams other than Kilkenny, have been able to retain the All Ireland title, so I think it is time to lay off the conspiracies and let Davie and the team get on with the job. Clare probably have a good enough team to eventually take over from Kilkenny. They're not going to progress in the next few years which is a pity. RebelCork (Cork) - Posts: 789 - 29/07/2014 12:27:34 1627848 Link 0 |
Yes fitzgerald won an all ireland with clare last year, after we beat them they built up a nice head of steam and won the liam mac but with that group of players the worst any clare fan would expect was to be competitive,i think if daly had a hold of them they would be a real force and for what its worth i bet he doesnt see out the three years blackrockeddie (Cork) - Posts: 160 - 29/07/2014 12:50:30 1627860 Link 0 |
Don't think he should have been given the extra year extension at the moment, I think the CCB should have waited until after next season to see how Clare reacted to this years championship before offering him an extension. Other than that Clare can't have too many complaints on the management. Gavin94 (Limerick) - Posts: 77 - 29/07/2014 13:07:49 1627877 Link 0 |
is this some sort of joke?..the man just won an all ireland and people were on about how clare could take over? fabio8 (USA) - Posts: 2182 - 29/07/2014 14:13:16 1627931 Link 0 |
I'd remind again that, as wonderful as the Banner's victory was last September, the county should be eternally grateful to Mr Gavin's Magical Added Time- though they were the better team for most of the game. Any neutral observer would have to ask how they managed to put themselves in such a situation. an tseabhac (Kerry) - Posts: 441 - 29/07/2014 15:28:16 1627983 Link 0 |
I'd be amazed if a few of the current CE team didn't win at least one more AI - they're experienced as a team ( with yet more successful u21s to come in as backup yet ) and still young enough individually. Davy and themselves will root out whatever went wrong this year with a view to coming back as strongly as ever in '15. Bickies'n'MiWadi time again. The facts are simple.Davy is one of the best hurling managers 1n IRELAND.IT IS JUST A GREAT SITUATION FOR THE BANNER COUNTY, The future teams will have the talent and DAVY HAS THE KNOW HOW. Hoe better can it get.!!!! brianboru (Clare) - Posts: 561 - 29/07/2014 16:09:28 1628023 Link 0 |
Hoover78.... if you think 2-23 to 2-18 is an annihilated well then clare annihilated both limerick 1-23 to 0-18 and cork 5-16 to 3-16 last year...... also fact is wexford beat clare with 2 extra men during the 70 mins, clare did remarkable well to draw the 2nd game being 2 points down playing with 13 men, maybe another munster and all ireland u21 double this year might alter your view of clares potential!! clare2013 (Clare) - Posts: 8 - 29/07/2014 18:19:09 1628098 Link 0 |
It's funny how people talk about Clare only playing with 13 men like it's some sort of achievement for the team. There is some serious on-field discipline issues that need to be sorted out. RebelCork (Cork) - Posts: 789 - 29/07/2014 18:27:47 1628107 Link 0 |
I can see Clare winning another All Ireland in next 2 years. This summer break will freshen them up bigtime.Next year they will be very hard to beat. cuederocket (Dublin) - Posts: 5084 - 29/07/2014 19:08:34 1628127 Link 0 |
I find to very funny how some people can come out and say that last year was a fluke and that clare are at best a top 7/8 team, poor year this year, better seasons to come, i agree tho that clare do have some discipline issues but so do a lot of teams clare2013 (Clare) - Posts: 8 - 29/07/2014 19:37:19 1628146 Link 0 |
I think it is unfair to say that Last year was a fluke. No one can say that for sure until we have seen how Clare perform over next few years. It is most unfair to demean Clares achievement. There is a wall of honour at HQ that will for ever say that Clare were AI champs for 13 so lets congratulate them on that. disillusiondfan (Limerick) - Posts: 4279 - 29/07/2014 19:50:55 1628156 Link 0 |
They're not facts at all disillusioned fan, that's just luck of the draw and some one off results. No knowledgeable hurling fan would rate Wexford or Dublin above Clare, and even Limerick are a championship victory over Clare away from alleging their superiority in the world rankings. Benedict did Wexford not beat Clare home and away after TWO periods of extra time. Did Dubin not beat Wexford?? Did Limerick not beat Wexford pulling up? disillusiondfan (Limerick) - Posts: 4279 - 29/07/2014 20:15:33 1628178 Link 0 |
