Dubs to win back-to-back All-Irelands?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Well, are they going to do it. A lot of discussion talking of possible negative tactics to stop them before the final and then Mayo who might finally reach the summit themselves. Will the Dublin Region retain their All-Ireland title or are Donegal or Mayo likely to stop them?

Ah the "Dublin region".

Bray, Leixlip, Dunboyne and Ashbourne all decked out in Dublin flags.

Allez les bleus.

When there was a thread on Dublin Region & Meath XV, they might as have discussed a Greater Dublin Region XV.

No idea.

I'm assuming begrudgery and or a desire to see Dublin split.

Dublin won't be stopped this year, not with the way they're playing at the minute.

lol, no begrudgery at all. Dublin Region have worked hard to get where they are. Endured many a tough year from '96 to '10. When won the '09 quarter-final, the Dubs were sporting as ever. Kerry were expected to lose that day and the Kerry fans to be like a funeral cortege on the way back. A Dub quipped after the match in '09 that if that was Kerry in trouble, they'd want to have a word with Brian Cowan. The Dubs while sporting in defeat are also sporting in victory as I experienced in '11.

Regards splitting the Dublin Region, I was living up there in '01 when that idea was first mooted. I remember getting the Evening Herald and they had a map done of out of the region split in two. They gave a list of the clubs either side of the Liffey and then a breakdown on the likely respective starting XV's. I thought it was a merited idea at the time, 10 years before the '11 All-Ireland win. I think it's lame of people who suggest it now following a bit of success.

Did anyone head to support Fingal County in the Rackard Championship this year?

I have a bad feeling, either Donegal in the semi final or Mayo in the All Ireland final will scupper our two in a row dreams.I have a healthy respect and a little fear of both these teams. Its going to be itchy bum time big style.

History tends to show that only teams with great attacking talent ever come close to retaining All-Irelands, and Dublin definitely have great attacking talent. I think Mayo are the side best equipped to beat them, but they can only meet in the final and for whatever reason Mayo often do not perform to their full capabilities on that stage. Id be surprised if Dublin don't retain Sam this year.

A procession of all provincial winners into the semi-finals seems a bit too smooth. Now based on the strengths of each, it's very possible they will march on but a shock is possible in one or two quarter-finals. While a Mayo v Dublin Region final is likely, could both be rocked in the quarter-finals and end up out of the championship? Stranger things have happened. The semi-finals could be all Ulster and all Munster.
At the end of the day though, it's hard to see an upset but sure the next two weekends will tell a lot.

while i appreciate Meath supporters gifting sam to dublin for the next few years i think dublin will win this year. Dublins strength is their fitness, The run all day and just swarm you. They run you into the ground and then just blow past you. The third quarter is where dublin must be curtailed but as yet no team seems to have the ability to hold them in this quarter.

I do how every think now that the blue print is there then next year sam will head else where. Football has changed with the players getting bigger fitter stronger and other counties must match this. And i think they will.

I fancy kerry ahead of mayo to give dublin their best outing . They will beat mayo in the semis and they have to football that dublin dont have and dublin have the fitness and build that kerry dont have. So i see kerry rebuilding and winning next year

Donegal against dublin i heard someone say that donegal will beat dublin . Dublin have the speed and strength to blow past the blanket defence so that is a no no.

Dublin v Kerry all ireland with dublin by 3 point.
If there is a team left the can match dublins fitness and strength that would make a cracking game but frankly i cant see it

Mayo are not the only team that can stop them.

Monaghan/Donegal could too.

I dont think they will, But they could.

As for only winning by a kick of a ball last year, Meh, You could argue we won by a kick of a ball, putting in our poorest performance of the year (league and championship combined)

It is hard to retain Sam, But we will give it a good go.

Legend,

I've come to terms with people being in favour of splitting "The Dublin Region" but for me the question has to be asked, What is the reason for it ?

Is it simply because of "The Dublin Regions" far superior population to 95% of other counties ?

Is it for "the good of the GAA" ?

You have to consider though not only the positives, But the negatives of such a move.

Every one of us "Dublin Region" fans where brought up at some point in our lives supporting "The Dublin Region" as a whole. Now i can't say with certainty, But i'd imagine the vast majority of our fans, will completely lose interest in going to games if "The Dublin Region" was split. We support the whole of "The Dublin Region", Not one half or the other.

Now if the majority of Dublin fans don't go to games anymore, What good will that do the association ? Smaller crowds when "The Dublin Region south" or "The Dublin Region north" are playing. Less income, Less interest, And im sure less kids will be interested in playing GAA in "The Dublin Region" because kids dream of wearing "The Dublin Region" jersey as a kid.

I can't ever see "The Dublin region" being split. And if it ever does, I know i won't go to a game ever again.

All hypothetical of course.

Armagh will come up trumps, under the radar and very little known about them... they have a great midfield and good mix of talent and ignorance.
I can see them lifting SAM this year, you heard it here first
