Mayo to finally win the All-Ireland

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

They've knocked out the All-Ireland champions each of the last 3 years. All seems quiet in Mayo right now. If they knock out the All-Ireland champions this year, they will be champions. Has Mayo's year finally arrived?

Mayo can definitely do it.

Will probably meet Kerry in semi....They normally cxxp themselves with the sight of the green and gold of the kingdom but that is normally in the final so I give them a chance.

If they get over that they will probably have to beat the Dubs or Donegal.

So for mayo to win they will probably have to beat Cork, Kerry and Dublin its possible if unlikely that they will beat all 3.

Assuming they get that far. They still have to turn up on Sunday.

I dont think so.There are only so many disappointments a team can take, and they looked less good so far than they have done over the past 3 years. I think they will possibly get to the final, but only just. There is where it will go wrong yet again for them. They would have a better chance against donegal or monaghan in the final. They would have absolutely zero chance against the dubs this year on their form and on dublins form.

Legendzxix...lets be honest you know it too. Kerry are the favourites to overcome the Dubs this year! Sneaking in nicely and the easier route to the final they will be well prepared!

I'll reserve judgement until i see what Cork side turn up at the weekend. The one that blew Dublin away in the first half of the league semi, or the one that capitulated in the 2nd half and in the Munster decider. Cork have the talent to beat any side with the panel they have. Form suggests Mayo but Cork have it in them to make this a difficult afternoon for Mayo. If Cork are within touching distance inside the last 10 minutes we will see where this Mayo side are at this year. It should be a very entertaining game with two quality sides out to prove a point. I'm looking forward to it.

The title Mayo to finally win the All-Ireland could be a bit more precise. They have already won 3 All-Irelands

To me next Sunday's game is a big challenge to Mayo and to be honest I can see Cork winning. But if Mayo win I think they will get to the final IMO if that's the case they would be better to meet Dublin than say Donegal/Monaghan After the Roscommon game a lot of Mayo posters here stated that Mayo struggle against blanket defences so if they struggled against Roscommon they will definitely struggle against Donegal's
Would not begrudge Mayo a win as I think they have fine supporters, people who went back time and time again yet only saw the other team collect Sam so above all counties I think Mayo people would surely deserve their day in the sun. But they have a lot to overcome

Galway lost 3 All-Irelands in a row in 1940, 1941 & 1942

Damothedub, I started the Qualifier counties thread by saying there's now a thread for each of the provincial winners. Balanced and fair enough.

Money on the capital, I threw out the question following the Sunday Game discussion and claims there's been huge investment in Dublin. arock in fairness has given a detailed response.

Attacking vs negative football was a fair question to ask which style people believe will prevail?

The topics were all balanced and fair within their own right. If people were not keen to discuss, they'd sink like stones.

The next two weekends of football anyways should be great. After two poor hurling quarter-finals, it'll be interesting to see how the football quarter-finals go. I'm anticipating one or two shocks. Time is going to tell! :D

No mayo fans are concentrating on anything other than cork. Id agree with seany's assessment, and in truth Im sure no other provincial winner wanted to play them. They are a dangerous side with enough ability in their ranks to beat literally anyone. However, I don't believe that there is all this pressure on mayo that I keep hearing about. We have actually been written off by many this year, with more interest being placed in all other provincial winners. They aren't playing like a team under pressure either. I think it is a bit of a red herring.

Not a chance. This is the same group of players who have been found wanting over the past 3/4 years and they are not strong enough mentally to win it. They are a decent football team but they don't have that inner strength and belief to get over the line and there's nothing to demonstrate that anything has changed. Derry showed in the National League that Mayo are still prone to the same failings when at the business end of tournaments and they easily throw the towel in when serious pressure is put on them. They may beat 1 big side but not 2 or 3.
