Comortas Peil Na Gaeltachta

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

While most attention on HS is reserved for the rarefied atmosphere of county football, a mention has to be given to the All Ireland Gaeltacht Football Championship, Comortas Peil na Gaeltachta which are being held this weekend in Maigh Cuilinn, Co. na Gaillimhe.

The finals are on today with the junior between Móindearg v Oileáin Árann at 2.00 & the senior between my beloved Cill Chartha V Cumann Micheal Breathnach at 3.30.

As an added bonus these games are being shown live on TG4 so kingdomboy's uncles will be happy!!

Thanks Muck and well done Was looking all weekend about results but could find none. Good luck to Cill Chartha and I'd say you will be a happy man if they win and best of all ::: going to your neighbours club Ardara next year as All Ireland champions. Might make it back next year for the Finals in Ardara.
Also Moinderg are a London based club with very strong connections with Galway/Connemara. They take part every year so for their effort it would be great to see them win.

Muckross, I watched the Kilcar Moycullen game last night on tg4. I thought Kilcar were excellent. 2 questions for you;
1. Was Paddy McB injured or why wasn't he togged? ( I have limited Irish!)
2. Why has Eoin McHugh not been drafted into the senior panel? I thought he was superb last night.
Btw Micky Hegarty still a class act.

Paddy McBrearty is carrying a slight injury but should play today.
Eoin McHugh is a great prospect but another year or two will do him the world of good.
I agree about Mickey Hegarty & would love to see him at No11 for Donegal but he couldn't give the commitment.
A word has to go to Rory Gallagher who has done a great job with a very small group. There is only one national school in Kilcar with 100 kids.
Greatness that it s in Ardara next year. They will do a great job !!

Is Eoin not about the same age as Ryan? Jim put Ryan in last year. Great to see some really good prospects coming through the ranks.

Jim did put Ryan in last year but Donegal were struggling with injuries & even then Ryan looked a little out of his depth.
I am not a big fan of putting young fellas into senior county football too soon & another year filling out wil do Eoin the world of good.

I agree with you to an extent in that he is a wee bit light as was Ryan last year. Murphy was thrown into the team as a minor a good couple of years ago but he was a fair size then. Fact is though Jim has no hesitation in calling up a minor. Paddy McB was in the team that played Antrim in Ballybofey in 2011 as a leaving cert. Surprised he is not even in the squad for experience, based on last night he looks like an amazing prospect.

clondalkin,

It's an All Ireland club competition for clubs from Gaeltacht areas.

Counties hold qualifiers on the May Bank holiday weekend & the All Ireland is played on the June weekend, this year in Moycullen Co. Galway.

As well as the football there is plenty of music & late nights.

The final is on TG4 as we speak.

After 47 mins Kilcar 2-11 0-10 Micheal Breathnach in the senior final.

What a game from young Ryan McHugh. Some footballer, great points and a good goal. Eoin is not half bad either! Full back also had a good game as did 5.

Aran Islands won the junior.

I agree about young Eoin. I was doubtful after the semifinal, thinking he was too young & light, but after watching the final he has got to be in JMcG's thinking. He has that rare ability in Donegal i.e. he runs straight at goal & causes panic as he does. Truth be told he reminds me of a young Michael Carr who had the same great balance at full flight.
We are not exactly bursting with talent on the bench & Eoin is exactly the type of player Jim likes. This topic will no doubt be aired in Kilcar House & O'Gara's tonight as the cup is passed round.

Eoin is a superb footballer. When he started running they could not get near him. Ryan was brilliant too. I would be surprised if Jim doesn't call him up. Delighted watching that even though I'm a Glenfin man! The future is bright for Donegal!

Watched the games live in London and well done Kilcar. E McHugh looks quite a player , should get a chance with the county panel, I like his running style and nice and speedy also Reminds me of his old man. Would have liked to see Moinderg win but they fell a little bit short. So next year it's in Ardara and hope to be there. Would I be right in saying that Donegal will have 3 clubs in the finals next year. As hosts Ardara qualify , Kilcar as All Ireland champions qualify as should whoever wins the Donegal gaeltachta championship ,if it's Kilcar then the beaten finalists.
Well done to all the Gaeltaghta communities and to the hosts Moycullen.

You are right Sam, there will be 3 Donegal teams there next year. Should make for a tasty competition & Ardara will be superb hosts.

Looking forward to it.

Kingdomboy has been at silage all day but I'm pretty sure my uncles would have been watching tg4, they might as well enjoy it while they can I suppose.
