Are these lads now lost to hurling for their county at their own age level? keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 26/05/2014 12:59:07 1593509 Link 0 |
I think so. MesAmis (Dublin) - Posts: 13707 - 26/05/2014 13:06:02 1593513 Link 0 |
We learnt from last year's defeat, so if the guys are not training regularly with the team they won't get picked. witnof (Dublin) - Posts: 1604 - 26/05/2014 13:06:56 1593514 Link 0 |
Just read that there, don't know if they have been prevented from playing but if that's the case then that's absolutely ridiculous! Whatever about not letting them play Senior Hurling along with Senior Football and U-21, they should be let play their own age group. mrblob (Longford) - Posts: 71 - 26/05/2014 13:10:46 1593517 Link 0 |
Costello is injured at the moment Gael85 (Dublin) - Posts: 1433 - 26/05/2014 13:11:54 1593519 Link 0 |
All of these lads have said with a while that they would not be playing u21 this year the only one who was going to play was Ciaran Kilkenny and he is injured now. All are huge losses to Dublin hurling and it seems every year we have minors playing both codes and then they don't play for the hurlers when it comes to u21. This has always been the way and it doesn't look like changing too much either. dubshurling7 (Dublin) - Posts: 1017 - 26/05/2014 13:21:53 1593528 Link 0 |
Firstly 2 players played last year v Carlow who hadnt hurled in a long time (done little or no training with the 21 panel apparently) they gave the team nothing. There touch was poor. Fellas who arent hurling on a regular basis cant just turn it on for championship, so no loss on that regard Brianmac78 (Dublin) - Posts: 1168 - 26/05/2014 13:27:10 1593533 Link 0 |
A friend in peregrines has told me Eric hasnt played a hurling game in over a year with the club , now he was injured during that period also , but could hardly be expected to play for Dublin when hes not playing for club , don't be surprised if thats not the case with the other guys , Damothedub (Dublin) - Posts: 5193 - 26/05/2014 13:28:29 1593534 Link 0 |
all three of these named players declared at the start of the year they would not be playing hurling at any grade hill16no1man (Dublin) - Posts: 12665 - 26/05/2014 13:39:13 1593549 Link 0 |

Agree 100% brianmac. The allegedly star dual players probably cost Dublin the match against Carlow last year. If a member of the football panel hadn't played or trained football for months do you think Farrell or Gavin would pick them on first team !!!! hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 26/05/2014 14:00:51 1593569 Link 0 |
A non story by a lazy journalist. bricktop (Down) - Posts: 2503 - 26/05/2014 14:01:51 1593570 Link 0 |
These lads are concentrating on the football so there is no story here, id love to see them hurl but they chose football and its better to see lads who want to hurl and are training be given the chance for team moral as much as anything else. Costello and McHugh both played u21 for Dublin last year when Carlow beat them. But McHugh wasn't in the Dublin set up and the Dublin u21 footballers had got knocked out so it was easier to just play u21 hurling and senior football. dubshurling7 (Dublin) - Posts: 1017 - 26/05/2014 14:16:14 1593588 Link 0 |
sure mchugh hasnt been involved with the dublin senior panel hill16no1man (Dublin) - Posts: 12665 - 26/05/2014 14:19:31 1593591 Link 0 |
It's a pity, though. These lads would probably have a better chance of making it with the county hurlers. Dublin hurling really needs to win an All-Ireland if they are to buck this trend. keeper7 (Longford) - Posts: 4088 - 26/05/2014 14:20:14 1593592 Link 0 |
Its not Jym Gavins priority ro care about hurling. his players are for football only. I hate to see it. its a joke as these lads should be allowed play the underage dual sports. Alrite at senior there is a bit much to commit to but they should be let off for the under 21. Fishermantom (Limerick) - Posts: 569 - 26/05/2014 15:04:57 1593628 Link 0 |
Its difficult enough to play one code, football will always have the glamour attraction in Dublin. But with Senior/Juvenile club managers insisting on players sticking to one code pressure starts a lot earlier. Before you could still play two codes at club level and one at county but that door in Dublin seems to be long closed. arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4896 - 26/05/2014 15:16:08 1593641 Link 0 |
