Derry had a pretty good league campaign but this is the real stuff and I fancy Donegal.

Careful Wayneo.

If brend sees this you'll be in trouble for talking about the Ulster Championship!

There is a lot of codology emanating from Donegal over player departures etc - could it be tactical as everyone knows Donegal cant handle the pressur? Celtic Park swings the advantage heavily in Derry's favour. Can Donegal recover from losing a League final to Monaghan given their determination to win it )revenge for the 2013 Ulster final defeat) and to set out their stall to the reigning Ulster Champions? for the forthcoming campaign Can Derry build on a National League campaign that surpassed all expectations? I wonder whats the odds on a Derry v Tyrone Ulster Final?

Only such fascinating permutations exist within the battlefields that are Ulster football.

I think some people may give Derry less of a chance than they may have a month ago because of their heavy defeat in the league final, but the same day Donegal lost aswell, and Dublin are on a completely different level to anything that was going on the Division 2 decider. Derry came up against the best team in the country and will have come away learning alot about themselves. That was the only blip in a fantastic league for them, and I think they'll take that form through to Ulster.

It'll be tight but I think Derry will sneak it.

Laois had trouble in their camp and had a good away win today....

A bit of descent can bring a squad a long way.

Roy Keane....SAIPAN....

(To counter that though....the Dutch training camp before most major tournaments doesn't help their cause)

Derry with their home advantage could catch Donegal on the hop. Somehow i doubt it though.

Why though? Derry for me were more impressive in Division 1 than Donegal were in Division 2. I just don't think Donegal have returned to their 2012 levels since they won that AI, and I'm not sure they will again. Derry are the team with all the hunger here and I think that'll show.

Hope Donegal Winona Sunday but if Derry win I think they will win Ulster. As I said before :: Donegal/Derry v Down Ulster final.
Looking at today's game well if JMcG can get his troops back to something near 2012 form then they will win Ulster. But it's all on the day and as Down's comeback showed today nothing is certain until the ref blows his whistle. Hopefully Donegal by 5/6 points.

Don't understand this at all but anyway.

Hard one to call. We are under-strength at midfield with Kav suspended and big Neil looks like he's struggling to make it. That'll leave us with McElhinney along with maybe Toye, MacNíallais, Classon or young Hugh McFadden. Good players but apart from Toye, very inexperienced to go up against the likes of Fergal Doc and Patsy Bradely in the heat of an Ulster Championship first round match. It's possible that Maybe even Murphy will be asked to deputise. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Gallagher will make it.

If he does, I'm hoping that we'll have enough firepower to prevail in a tight game.

It'll be very intriguing to see who picks up Lynch. Eamonn McGee did a good spoiling job on Sean Cavanagh last May, maybe he'll be tasked with a similar job on Lynch this time around.

I just doubt that Derry will beat Donegal thats all.

Not saying its completely out of the question that Derry can win. Just dont see it myself.

I like both teams... should be a great game

If Derry can get over a 15 point loss to Dublin and go onto beat Donegal it will be very impressive

It would be like the NFL Div 1 final didn't even happen... a massive boost to them

Donegal looked out of idea's against Monaghan... but I'd expect a better performance from them

Lots of talented players but they haven't performed well since 2012...

Very close this one...

link Interesting assessment, but I dont think that handling the pressure is an issue for this team. They have already proved they can handle a lot of pressure, and managed to win the all ireland playing 7 games without a replay to do it. Even last year, despite the bad results against mayo and monaghan, people seem to forget that they beat a very motivated down team and an equally motivated tyrone team before monaghan eventually caught us on a very off day in clones. I predict we will play very well. I predict that derry will play a very good game too, it wont be for lack of trying or lying down that either team loses or wins. I think that it even could be decided in ballybofey in a replay. Stranger things have happened, and I think that there will be positive taliking points about the game when it is done.

Gallagher is looking like missing this one which is a pity as that means both our first choice midfielders are out although it could be argues that Mc Elhinney is now a first choice. Please oh please don't even mention the name of Classon. I'd play either Mac Nialis or Toye in the middle. I'd expect Jim to play Toye and that opens up a place for Mc Loone at No.11.

I'd have Lacey on Lynch. Lynch doesn't do well against a fast tackler so if not Lacey then I'd put Ryan Mc Hugh on him. Lynch does well on players similar to him in stature but as we seen from Johnny Cooper if you can nip in front of him or frustrate him when on the ball he just isn't that effective. Johnny Cooper is however one of the most underestimated man markers in Ireland so I hope our lads can do the same job on Lynch.

Should be a tight game and scores will be hard fought for and hard got. Funny enough, even as bad as our league final was I think we will prevail by 2 - 3 points.

Kavanagh will be a huge loss for Donegal, now it seems Gallagher is struggling. Derry are particulary strong in this area with Doherty and Bradley.

As I mentioned before I was at league finals and donegsl looked heavy legged and didn't look very impressive, I always felt Donegals ultimate aim was to get promoted and they were not too interested in the league final they would have gladly missed that game.

Think Derry at home will count for a lot in this game think they might just edge this one by a couple of pts.
