Im a manager and I have the choice of two keepers. I have a keeper who has excellent kick outs but is an average shot stopper. On the other hand I have a keeper who is and outstanding shot stopper with average kick outs, which often leads to loss of posesion. Im asking for yer opinions on which is more important? galway1212 (Galway) - Posts: 97 - 19/04/2014 18:29:30 1577143 Link 0 |

Yeah, it's going to be what's best for your team. If your back line is a bit leaky, I'd want a shot stopper. If your backs are solid, I'd go with the kickouts. All things being equal, I'd for the longer kickouts, shot stopping can be taught, kicking strength is less teachable. Its better than to start, or struggle to start, attacks from midfield than your half backs, or full backs. Just my opinion though. kilflynn (Kerry) - Posts: 66 - 19/04/2014 20:06:14 1577274 Link 0 |
Depends on how well your players are drilled for kickouts, are they energetic and disciplined enough? If so, play the kicker, if not, I'd take the shot stopper! realdub (Dublin) - Posts: 8571 - 19/04/2014 20:08:26 1577277 Link 0 |
The way the game is now kick outs, or "Pass restarts" as they will soon become known, are more important than shot stopping. Does your good kicker have accuracy or just good length? Nowadays a lot of restarts are won inside your own 45, meaning accuracy is everything. You can always improve either kicking or shot shopping, although kicking accuracy is a lot easier improve than the natural ability of shot stopping. I'd go with your shot stopper and work tirelessly with him on his kicking (the whole team need to participate in kick out drills). Get him to go to the pitch on his own a few days a weeks with a bag of balls and practice kicking. killer_88_ (Mayo) - Posts: 2040 - 23/04/2014 21:41:56 1579295 Link 0 |

The way the game is going kickouts are much more important when your team comes under pressure you can't afford your keeper to be having an off day with the boot Victorious87 (Wicklow) - Posts: 597 - 24/04/2014 14:36:54 1579478 Link 0 |
Look having a leaky keeper has done dublin no harm.cause he makes up for what he lacks in shot stopping with precise kick outs. The way game is gone I'd go for kicker. foreverroyal (Meath) - Posts: 349 - 24/04/2014 18:33:31 1579626 Link 0 |
