Attendances

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

New year new Topic!!!
What do ye think the attendances will be like for next year?
Will they be better than last years?
How are the season tickets selling?
And can the GAA do any more to help improve attendances?

I couldn;t get over the crowd at last Sundays mickey mouse McGrath Cup game. Tralee vs Tralee IT now normally 200-300 max for a McGrath Cup gameif on a nice day, there was 700 plus and the weather was horrendous I couldn;t believe it

26 spectators at the the UCC/LIT game at the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick, according to the Examiner. Why hold it at the Gaelic Grounds? Hasn't LIT got a grounds of its own?

Allow supporters sit in stand, be in terrace rather than just stand on side of pitch like in LIT.
Gaelic Grounds beside LIT so no issue

there is an issue they would have to pay to use the ground.
pay to turn the floodlights on.
would cost them more money then anything else playing in gaelic grounds
as thats why limerick dont play most league games there as the cost of running the ground outweighs what they get in

2,000 in Castlbar last night for Mayo v Nuig. Not a bad crowd for a Friday evening at 7pm.

Great crowd at last Sundays opening McKenna Cup game between Donegal v Tyrone game nearly 5000 and I would suspect there will be a large crowd at the first league away for Tyrone at Derry. Certainly from a Tyrone aspect in the league if supporters see the opportunity for good competitive games then the crowds turn out.

All Corks league games are going to be held in Pairc Ui Rinn. That leaves a max attendance of 7,000. I suppose they are being realistic rather than confident and being in division b in hurling will mean the crowds will be well down this year.

The attendances for the league in hurling will very much depend on the weather, and should be around the same as last year. But I'd imagine when the championship comes around the attendances for the hurling will be up on last year as everybody will believe they can get something out of this year.

The only part of the summer I can see being lower in attendance than it should is the Leinster hurling SF's, they're set for two different weeks. As the games are most likely to be Kilkenny v Galway and Wexford v Dublin (if there are no shocks) I think a double header in Croke Park would draw a bigger crowd than two games in provincial neutral venues.

Floodlights cost wouldnt be astronomical and playing in gaelic grounds makes organisation of crowd etc easier. LIT pitch has no barriers around pitch, no terrace/stand for supporters/media. Only a rope to keep people off pitch. No dugouts etc.
They werent going to play in LIT if expecting any sort of a crowd.
Fitzgibbon games when LIT were the home team were mental with crowd all over the place at times and crowds would be as bad for this game

Luke...you seem to have a very negative viewpoint...the Gaelic grounds wouldn't cost 200 euro to open for a game...couple of turnstiles is all you need...showers & lights same as club ground more or less..Good to see Harty Cup matchs there ....cant be minding it just for big days...and Limerick v cork will be all ticket if it can only hold 7K..be 3 or 4000 from limerick at least there..
