Christy Ring Cup 2013

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Kildare 1-23 - 0-15 Mayo
Meath 1-20 - 2-10 Armagh
Derry 1-11 - 1-10 Wicklow
Down 2-17 - 3-16 Kerry

2A 3rd Kerry
2A 4th Derry
2A 5th Wicklow
2A 6th Kildare
2B 1st Meath
2B 3rd Down
2B 4th Mayo
2B 5th Armagh

There wasn't any surprises yesterday with the higher league placed teams beating the teams below them in the league. Not just because it's my county, I have to give special mention to Kerry for their away win. They have gotten very few home games in recent years and always seem to be on their travels as they were yesterday.

Meath are the only division 2B team to be in round 2A! Wicklow are the only 2A team to be in round 2B!

The 2A and 2B rounds should be interesting enough regardless of the draw. All teams in round 2A I'm sure will want to make the semi-finals as soon as possible, with the direct route of skipping round 3 being preferrable.

I won't lose sleep over it. As long as the local paper gives it coverage, which the Kerryman does in Kerry, I'm happy enough. I think this year's Christy Ring winner should be given the option of joining the provincial qualifying group next year. Tbere's going to be 5 counties in the group which means one county won't be playing each weekend. This year's Ring winner if they wished to join could easily be accommodated.

The GAA's eventual plan is for the qualifying group to reduce to 3. I don't see why that should not be 4. If there's 3 teams in a group with 2 to go through. The 2 teams on the last day could fix a result to see both through. Secondly again one team won't be playing each weekend.

Interesting games, would have to say the Christy Ring championship is extremely competitive. No team would fear another! It's a pity the GAA couldn't care less about it. Predictions for next round? And what are they.... No sign of them ok hogan stand

The Christy Ring Cup started in 2005 to help the so called weaker counties. Looking at it from an ulster view the two counties who should have benefited Down & Derry have gone backwards. In saying that the standard among the top counties is poor as well Offaly, Wexford, Antrim, Limerick etc have no chance in the race for Liam. Its pretty clear Kilkenny, Tipp and Galway are the only contenders.

In the Christy Ring Cup Round 2A, Kildare will play Meath and Derry have to make the long trip to Kerry. In Round 2B, there is an Ulster derby between Armagh and Down, while Wicklow have home advantage against Mayo.

Round 2A
Kildare v Meath
Kerry v Derry

Round 2B
Armagh v Down
Wicklow v Mayo

Predictions:
Kerry win
Kildare win
Down win
Wicklow win

Any of these could be tight! Mayo won't have Higgins so I'll say Wicklow at home. Down, Kildare & Kerry.

Derry might upset Kerry. Wouldn't be surprised if Down lose to Armagh either. Meath/Kildare a toss up and I think Wicklow will brush aside Mayo.

Wicklow beat Mayo 4-19 / 3-10 so no surprises in Arklow. Armagh and Mayo are both eliminated. Any news from Newbridge?
