Thank You John Devine

(Oldest Posts First)

I'd like to thank John Devine who has been joint first goalkeeper for Tyrone since 2002. Remember how sad it felt the morning of the AI final in 2008 to hear his Father had passed away and a sense that joy and tragedy in Tyrone are never too far apart.
John leaves with 3 AI senior medals and and AI minor as well as numerous honours with Errigal Ciaran and the huge respect of the Tyrone supporters and beyond.
Reading the tributes to him on Twitter the one consistent theme besides his class was that he was a true gentleman.

With the puke football and defensive tactics Tyrone employed in their all ireland victories, They hardly even needed a goalkeeper :)

I'm only joking :) Great servant to Tyrone GAA .. Good luck to him in retirement

Very good keeper. An awful day for him on the day of the AI in 2008.
Down in Kerry we still cringe at Pascal's big toe saving Declan O Sullivan's goal chance that day but the death of a player's father on the day of the game puts it into perspective.

May he enjoy his retirement

Played on him once when he was with JMU.
Don't know the lad personally, but we spent the most part of the hour pushing & shoving & trading verbals after he accused (falsely) me of having a hand in an early injury to one of their players. Handbags stuff altogether I'll admit. He might be a nice fella, but I never got to experience it for that hour anyway or afterwards. He was standing up for his team-mate admittedly, but I had to stand up for myself too. I'd be the type to hold a grudge.

Solid keeper though. I wont say any more.

Devine had strong kickouts. Seemed like they flew a country mile.
