Elected to the position back in 1972, Frank Murphy's long reign as Cork County Board secretary is about to end. Administrator (None) - Posts: 2274 - 27/09/2017 14:24:32 2051028 Link 0 |
This disappoints me as I enjoy following the Deluded Frank Murphy Twitter account. RoyalBadger (Meath) - Posts: 571 - 27/09/2017 15:13:13 2051054 Link 1 |
Except he isn't going anywhere so there is nothing to discuss. He vacates the secretary role because it is a full time role and he is past retirement. He stays in power though. You don't just give that up. bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 27/09/2017 17:58:52 2051106 Link 1 |

The one thing about Frank Murphy, he would be a great man to have in your corner. 49erroyal (Meath) - Posts: 60 - 03/10/2017 11:00:42 2052644 Link 0 |
The Negatives far out weight the positives. Too much involvement in teams selections and played no small part in the strikes in cork ritchie (Cork) - Posts: 346 - 03/10/2017 12:25:51 2052675 Link 1 |
For a county of it's size, arguably Cork gaa has underachieved during Frank Murphy's time as County Secretary. endgame (Roscommon) - Posts: 2141 - 03/10/2017 12:57:46 2052685 Link 0 |
It might be said that hanging in there so look is love and dedication to the cause. However there are way too many examples in sport where the hanging on is power and using the position. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 2642 - 03/10/2017 20:37:22 2052830 Link 1 |
Don't think that effectively making someone the County Secretary for life was such a good thing. Moyle (Tipperary) - Posts: 86 - 05/10/2017 04:45:01 2053186 Link 1 |
Frank was always a divisive figure. I have known him since he refereed parish leagues back in 1960's. His knowledge of hurling is limited, but was a good referee and administrator. He didn't move with the times, and shares some responsibility for strikes. Did well with Blackrock.....brought in outside players like John Horgan, Donie Collins and Frank Cummins, and made sure that Blackrock was well represented on Cork teams of 1970's Anyway, he will still be running Cork County Board.. Different topic...Cork Coach...personally I'd like Tomas Mulcahy to take over as coach. Kingston was good...i hear that the reason he left was because the Board did not like his choice of selectors/backroom staff Rockies (Cork) - Posts: 947 - 08/10/2017 13:48:39 2053853 Link 0 |

If you had attended the 1971 Munster Final in Killlarney you would not be convinced he was a good referee- an awful display.

Unfortunately, too many people like him in the GAA over the years hanging on to power. I could mention a certain sub Saharan African president but I won't!!! Moyle (Tipperary) - Posts: 86 - 29/10/2017 00:16:21 2058881 Link 0 |
I dont agree. Frank is good but comparing him to Nelson Mandela might be stretching it a little.

Really? The man has been there since around the time that great hurler Cuchulainn was still known as Setanta, yet you conclude the Gaels are all about change? Paper never refused ink.
