National - Pat Gilroy for Dublin hurlers

Well it is between him and Mattie out in Cuala with him the favourite due to the Vincent's mafia (as they are known)

Hope it goes well for him and Cunningham. It would be good for hurling if Dublin were competing strongly for Liam each year and also knocking up a few Leinster titles

It's official.
Here's hoping we can move on to better times under his management.

I thought it was too good to be true when I heard the rumours. Absolutely delighted and really looking forward to exciting times ahead after going backwards for the last few years. Hope to see Shay Boland on board as a selector too.

It be a new experience for the players to listen to a Dublin born manager a good one at that

Yes - good appointment.
Surprised he has Cunningham with him. He was meant to be a Team good manager but not tactically astute.

I've no doubt he will surround himself with the right people - may take a little time to get this right.

All the best to him and his team, would love to see Dublin reclaim some lost ground. Hopefully he can persuade more talent to come on board too.

Shrewd appointment by Dublin. Are there any footballers that might be enticed to get involved with the hurlers? Diarmuid Connolly?

I learned a few years not to doubt this man..

I've learned that lesson after making some daft comments back in 2009!! and now I wish him the very best, great to have him back into the Dublin fold and will be looking forward to attending the games

It'll take a wee while but Dubkin have the players and a good crop of underage success in Leinster

Now let's get the lads that walked back into the panel and get back to business

There's a good Dubs team coming and no better man to help build the platform

Up the Dubs

As I said on the Dublin page I don't really know what to think of this one.

Best of luck to Pat, we have good hurlers in Dublin, good enough to be competitive at least with the best teams in the country.

It's hard to see though how Kenny didn't get the appointment when you think about it. All-Ireland winning manager with a Dublin club and knows a lot of the players very well.

In anyways here's hoping that at the very least Gilroy can get the best 25 lads in Dublin available to hurl in 2018. That at least would be a massive improvement on the last few seasons.

Up the hurling Dubs!

Interesting on the day Padraig Duffy announced his retirement? Tell us more about why you link one to the other when they seem mere coincidences to most of us?

Gilroy went for director general job when Liam mulvihill retired and apparently he was close to getting the job but Duffy got it instead.

Are you including Connolly, O'Callaghan and Kilkenny in that 25!?

I was thinking a really shrewd move would be to have Gilroy & Kenny on the same ticket! No need for Anthony Cunningham then.

Also Lowdnes, Costello, Schutte, Ó Conghaile all good/great hurlers on the football panel. Johnny Cooper also hurled underage for Dublin. Probably missing another couple too in or around the panel.

But to answer your question, no.

We haven't had the best available hurlers hurl in the last couple of seasons for various reasons. I don't count the footballers as available to the hurling team and I'm not sure if their chance to make an impact at inter-county isn't gone already.

Without the players lining out for football we still have enough good hurlers to be competitive and make an impact in the Championship imo. Better than the last few years in anyways.

Yeah I'd agree with you MesAmis that it'd be hard for Connolly in particular to make the switch. Con O'Callaghan 100% could though. I'd be curious to see what the 3 lads would do at county level though. I know Lowndes, O Coghnaille and Schutte hurl as well. Arguably Connolly would be the most likely having achieved everything there is to achieve in football...

The draw of a likely Celtic Cross is too much though. Same with Tipp lads going in the opposite direction.
