Dublin' Costello throwing away the kicking tees

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Costelloo is shown, in footage in the Independent today, throwing away Clarke's kicking tees as he hurried to take a quick kick out after Rock's last score. Surely this was in equally poor taste as Keegan's throwing his GPS in the direction of Rock as he took his free. Amazingly neither the ref or or the umpires saw this or the fouling of three Mayo players as they tried to make themselves available for the kick-out. Perhaps more amazing is the fact that Charlie Redmond did not see any of that either or he would surely have being calling for 'examples' to be made of them as well as Keegan

Let it go bud. The championship is over. You're not seriously comparing throwing objects at your opponent to messing with the keeper's tees are you? The ref gave Mayo every chance to equalise adding 3 mins on to the 6 mins already allocated and blowing up as Dublin were about to tag on another point at the end. Keegan's act was unique, throwing an onject at an opponent, it's not surprising to hear calls for it to be dealt with. I can't remember anything like it happening before.

Is a good old fashioned hanging out of the question?

String the pair of them up I say! That'll teach them!

Clutching at straws a little bit comparing these. There's loads of incidents of do anything to win the game out there not just these....i remember Barry John Keane I think it was kicking a ball off a tee as keeper was set up to kick it out, last year in the women's game tipp were 1 point down to clare and were about to take a 45, clare player booted the ball away when everyone was set up and kick about to happen, turned out after getting a talking to the clock ran down and tipp had a single kick instead of a chance of getting on a second ball. Loads of incidents of unsportsmanlike behaviour out there.

INCORRECT. It was before Rock had even taken the free. Costello was well within his rights to throw it back in the goal. It is not allowed on the pitch during play

Ya you're right but the eye gouging by Ogara has to be the worst IMO and not a word said about it?

Oh the irony! Charlie Redmond whining about unsportsmanlike behaviour. I don't think his actions in the 95 final will ever be equalled.

Charlie should stay out of the papers, but he never could, just as well he was a top class act or I'd be p*ssed off with him :D

I suppose the difference between this and Lee Keegan incident is that you'd only notice the GPS being tossed when footage is in slow motion or pointed out to you. Costello messed around with kicking tees right dead straight in front of two umpires who couldn't but have seen it.
Anyway its all over for another year, congrats to the dubs , deserving winners.

Tune in tomorrow for Episode 7 of Finalgate where we will probably discover that Seamus O'Se spiked the Dubs water bottle with Miwadi, that Bernard Brogan used inappropriate language towards a Mayo player, that Declan D'Arcy denied ever having been in Carrick on Shannon, ever........
Surely Netflix will make a series of this riveting stuff.

Haven't seen the incident, or the timing of when it happened, but I've been warned by a referee, that I'd be booked if I failed to remove the tee after kickout. Assume similar is true if placing tee while free hasn't been taken yet.

Obviously Keegan and Costello will be dealt with by 'the powers that be'. Keegan's silly action of throwing a GPS across Rock's run up failed to have the desired effect. However the actions of the Dublin quartet did have the desired effect and that can't be nullified now. Poor sportsmanship and poor reffing.

You need to take of the blinkers!! both incidents are pretty much similar in that they have no place in a final.

Im just glad no Mayo fans are starting these threads after the game.
Time to move on

It should be as much a non story as the keegan story but unfortunately Charlie Redmonds pathetic comments saw to it that this would also get air time.

Not sure about that head. Clarke should have been booked for having his tee laid down on the field of play. All Costello did was pick it up and throw it off the field of play to get it out of Rock's field of vision, who had enough to contend with having GPS systems thrown at him and Mayo players not retreating or in Keegan's case running beside him. Straight out of the Mick Lyons' school of place kicking distraction techniques I would say.

Costello threw his tee away because Clarke was placing it in the spot before Rock even took his free. Costello was well within his rights to throw it away.

We actually I can I think Charlie Redmond in the 1995 final was pretty unique that will take some surpassing :-) ;-) ;-)

If mayo were in the same position they would have done the identical thing as the dubs and if they didn't they would be very stupid not to.

INCORRECT yourself actually - while he did remove the tee from the pitch he also fired away additional tees Clarke had at the posts.
