There's a kind of hush, all over the west

(Oldest Posts First)

OK Mayo. We get it : no hype, no songs, no Mayo for Sam, no Taoiseach threatening to run onto Croke Park etc. This year it's going to be completely different. All expectations are being carefully 'managed' so that the lads will explode out onto Croke Park fully primed and focussed; not an ounce of energy will have been expended on dealing with all the hype. If the prep is different then the outcome will necessarily be different too, or so the logic goes.
Must admit I'm a little spooked. That Rochford is a clever buck.
Much prefer to see secondary schools embarrassing themselves with Andre Bocelli knock-offs.
So, come along and sing with me: Bom bom bom, everybody say Mayo, mayo.....Bom bom---
OK. I'll get my jacket.

As a Galwayman living in Mayo, I was told today "we've learnt from your hurlers. Heads down, job done, then the county can go mad afterwards".

Mayo for Sam lads....

I'm convinced the world won't be the same if Mayo actually win sam. All the banter of the legendary curse just gone. No more bottlers. No more bridesmades. No more poor Mayo. No more maybe next year...Who will Mayo even be after a win on Sunday ehy? They might even need to stick some sort of title in front of their name to separate themselves from the old loser Mayo teams. . . . . Don Mayo.... Sir Mayo..... Dr.Mayo....King Mayo...Samayo... that's the one. Samayo.

I said the same thing to a friend of mine yesterday from Mayo. I was saying how the romanticism of the whole sorry story will be lost. but he quickly cut me down and said ''no!!!! we're sick of losing at this stage'' Tbh I'd let Cavan fit in that void for a few years !!!!!! :o

What was Tyrone like before 2003?
If Mayo win, the media will move onto a new project to fill all those column inches....Kildare anyone?

It was the night before Christmas
And all through the house
Not a creature was stirring
Not even a mouse

Think there's only so many times you can go through these scenarios and not be affected by the routine that takes place and getting all excited.
It's a bit like the lead up to Christmas and then getting the washroom set.

You do realise these things don't organize themselves and have to be done in advance.

Do you mind all of the grief Donegal got after it was revealed their "Welcome home parade" in advance of the 2012 final was revealed?

It was Mayo fans sinking the boot in back then, so best take your oiling.

Forget about what's happening on Monday, tomorrow after the game the 1st stop will be the M4 toll bridge, we'll have to jumps out and take over the place, stick up a Mayo flag or 2, we're due a free pass through by now, hope it's a good day the last few football finals were played in the rain, makes the ground and ball slippy, and it's horrible having to either stand or sit in the rain for hours then the long journey home still wet, best of luck to all tomorrow and safe travel to all heading to the capital from every county, Maigh Eo abu

It was the same in 2012 - after beating Cork Jim told the players to enjoy what might be the best 3 weeks of their lives - mayo went into no hype mode
