With the scramble for tickets, the genuine fan often missing out on getting to see their team in the all ireland final (for Dublin and Mayo, the season ticket doesn't even prevent this due to waiting lists), disappoomtimg finals (2013, 14 and 15 pretty poor games, 2016 two crackers
and that went to a replay), why not play the all ireland as a best of 3 or best of 5 series?

They do it in ice hockey and NBA

You could have home, away and neutral games

One wrong refereeing decision less likely to cost a team

Huge boost to the like of Killarney, Castlebar, etc. You could even do 3 neutral games and use casement and PÚC, or even London/New York!

Forget the super 8. This is the future Of Gaelic Football!

Interesting idea.... What about club games?

All very well to have three or five games but the chance of having a very difficult second and possible third game might have reverberations as well, IE discipline! Very often we have plenty of rows in a replay with lads trying to sort us differences and idle scores for the first game...

I would not be in favour.

Interesting concept , but I think the nock on effect on other games especially club games would be detremental. This system works great in the NHL playoffs but teams don't have a club structure to deal with, also a lot of these games are sometimes played within 2/3 days of each other, amateur players could not be expected to do that.
That said it would make things interesting...

Plus the cost on travelling fans. Imagine Mayo with 9 games already played.

Would be great for entertainment. But there are club matches that have to be played, which in my opinion should be the number one priority for the GAA.

So most responses bring up the issue of delaying club games.

Well the super 8 is 2 extra games per team (8 teams).

Why not host the all ireland semi finals the one weekend (essentially what happened last weekend) and play the finals the last weekend of August, and the 2nd and 3rd weekend of September.

Dublin and mayo played in October last year and Vincent's still made an all ireland semi final.

Interesting viewpoint. Could never see the Final/Finals/Series being taken out of Croker. The Corporate affect alone would be too significant. There's also the limitation of some home grounds - We'd be screwed for one! 11.5K capacity in Cusack Park

The beauty of having a final (as opposed) to a series is that it's all on the day. If GAA went fully professional then you could propose this but until then no way.

OK I am being stupid, but not much more than the original post! This is absolute nonsense, whatever chance Mayo have of beating Dublin, they have none over 3 days. Same when anybody plays Kilkenny.

We need a system where anybody who attends National League games and Provincial Championship games are entitled to All Ireland final tickets, regardless of whether they are a season ticket holder or club member. It's shocking how many people get All Ireland final tickets who have failed to attend games all year.

Some people opt out of local club membership for various reasons, such as maybe being unhappy with how their club is being run. I know loads of people who will not have anything to do with their local clubs due to the people involved in the running of the club. And they still attend every county game all year, but don't like season ticket seating etc.

For greater fairness under existing structure -
After 16 non-Prov SFlists are paired up, beaten Prov SFlists are each drawn against one of those non-SF pairings to form 8 groups of 3 (group stage Rd 1).
4 beaten in Prov Finals join top 2 from the 8 groups in a KO 'Rd 2' of 20.
2 beaten Prov Champs from a 'Champs playoff Rd' (gives Champs a 2nd chance) enter a KO 'Rd 3' of 12.
6 Rd 3 winners join 2 unbeaten Champs in KO AI QFinals (forget the Super 8s and their dead rubbers).
