Clucko - I doff my cap

(Oldest Posts First)

Tomorrow becomes the player to play most championship matches ever, and I would not put it past him to go on and hit 100.

Only player to captain and All-Ireland winning three times!

Refused to play for the club first when they started brining in outsiders and dropped to the 2nd team.

And if you read John Leonard's book you would understand the mentality he has.

2011 and that free!!!

The following will bring the wrath of many outside Dublin, but he has to be one of the greatest players ever, if not the greatest.

Has any one player ever had such an impact on the game? He single handily changed the whole tactics and strategy of the game. No one player has ever done that.

One day he will have to retire (probably when he is 50!!!) and the hole he is going to leave is imagineable.

Bravo on the 89th!!!

Cluxton: Record Breaker

The Dublin captain and goalkeeper will overtake retired Kerry brothers Tomás and Marc Ó Sé when he makes his 89th appearance against Monaghan in the All-Ireland SFC quarter-final.

Incredible record and accolade to have against his name

Also hats off to the Ó Sé brothers who earned their appearances on the field and held such top notch consistency over so many years.

That's something that also applies to Cluxton - his consistency and desire to remain at the top and tbh he's as good as he's ever been.

It looks to me anyway that he's more than capable of making 100+ which really would be an incredible feat.

Also hats off to Sean Cavanagh who will make his 88th appearance another one of these legendary type players who have given it their all over the years

We have been lucky to live through some of the best years for such high quality players. Just a pleasure to watch the likes of these legends.

A remarkable achievement and a testament to his dedication and quality over the years. He will rightly go down as the best goal keeper of all time and one of the GAA's most iconic players. The perception of him is that he's a bit of an introvert. But I would actually commend him for that. Too many players nowadays aren't happy unless they're on social media promoting themselves or some product or other. Stephen has shown himself to be a GAA player first and foremost and he has reaped the benefits of that approach. Well done that man!

I'd say the one thing he is thankful for, given the way some of you go on about him, is that he is not a female. Jaysus I have never seen so much love towards one man since the Hoff stood on the Berlin Wall.

Good post. He is a good example to young players on how to improve themselves. Earlier in his career, he made some rash decisions but has worked hard on his own game (and in his own time) bringing a very high and consistent standard to his game.

The greatest keeper ever. One I'd curse when we play the Dubs but absolutely admire as a footballer and how he conducts himself. Congratulations.

A wonderful achievement and a great example of what application and dedication can do. Cluxton I'd imagine more than anyone else knows only too well the true value of what he is living out now.Having gone through the wilderness that was the lean years in his early days as net minder and suffering real low points when winning what he has and captaining this side to several All Irelands must have seemed stuff that was meant for other mortals. True lovers of GAA will know his worth. Some will acknowledge it ,some would rather not, there is no denying it however.

An odd character, but the best there has ever been and ill likely never see anyone like him again while im on this earth. The words legend and great are thrown around too willy nilly nowadays, Only special, special players, game changers, generation changers, become greats and legends. Long after he is gone we will be talking about him as the man who revolutionized the game, Absolute class act, Well done Stephen.

His story and achievements will be the stuff of legends, highs, lows and complexities.

Hes done things no one else in the game has and likely never will and he did it all his own way, the charicter the man has is unreal and one of the true role models of the GAA.

A living legend.

He never will but if he ever wrote a book it would be an instant best seller.

A great achievement and well done.

Hopefully someday he will do an in-depth interview with someone and we will all get a sense of the man behind the jersey.

Thought he put in a brilliant performance yesterday, his performances this year have been excellent, just wanted to highlight it as we probably all take him for granted, his form this year has been exceptional.

No player is ever irreplaceable, we may just have one that will prove that theory wrong. When the day comes they are big gloves to fill
