Leinster Football. Falling behind the pack

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Leinster, the most populated province in the country, has only one team left in the championship. And Leinster's second best team has now been beaten recently by Ulster's and Connacht's also-rans.

What does this say about Leinster football? Meath, Laois, offaly, stop your messing and get on with it! Louth had a bit of blip there, but seems to have fallen away. Westmeath occasionally sputters, but never ignites. Longford? Do they have a team? Wicklow? Is it all the hills getting in the way? Carlow? At least they try. Dare I even mention Kilkenny who don't even have the hurling anymore? (Cheeky, I know!) But speaking of which, at least Wexford are back in the mix with the small ball, so they have some sort of excuse. What's going on in that province, does anyone care to explain?

Shockingly bad.

Yes, shame on you Leinster, if this keeps up there'll only be a few hundred people attending the Railway Cup games, oh wait... :D

You could make the argument that all that matters is who's name is on sam in September?

It's the old cliché but it's not rocket science. Many of us warned that Croke Park's fixation with Dublin was going to affect the game in the long run and it has.
How can the other Leinster counties approach their Championship with any realistic hope of success? What GAA player from Laois, Westmeath or Carlow etc wants to slog his guts out for 6 months and sacrifice their home life to get a 25+ point pasting from a Dublin side professional in name only? What fan wants to fork out 100's of Euros to watch such a humiliation? Corporate Croke Park have buried their head as the dollars have rolled in with Dublin's annual coronation.
The shameful thing is that the GAA probably don't really care so long as Kerry and Dublin battle it out every year. KERRRCCHHHINGGG!

The Big Bad Wolf theory doesn't explain the rest of Leinster's bad record against teams that are not Dublin though.

Dublin can only knock them out of the Leinster Championship.

The big 3, also known as the nouveau riche from Connacht have spoken. Hold your powder until after the semi finals. You'll have one team in 4, the same as Leinster by tomorrow evening.

I feel that our Leinster Champions Dublin will represent the province satisfactorily, as the always have in the past. Hon the Dubs!

No excuses in Leinster (and the rest of the country) we need to aspire to Dublin's level of excellence. From U14 to U17 we in Laois have very good teams. We lost to Dublin in the U17 Leinster final by 2 points in a closely fought game.

Dublin have brought the game to new levels. They are to be commended, not begrudged. They are a smashing football team who play the game in the spirit intended.

It is upto all countis to get up to Dublin level. They have more money and resources than every other county in ireland and that will not change but in fairness go spend a Saturday at any GAA club in dublin and you will see the time and effort they put in from under 6 on. As a donegal man with 2 boys living in dublin it's scary, but you reap what you sow. I think every club in dublin has full time coach etc.

What would help if coke park put it's hand in it's pocket and paid for full time coaches in other counties to help them and help the games

cant blame dublin for kildare yet again wilting under pressure, and meath being a sad excuse at the moment is hardly our fault either

the dublin excuse simply doesnt stand as look at the strides tipp and clare have made in the shadows of cork and especially kerry who are every bit as good as us or damn close anyway while also dealing with hurling as well...theres no excuse for not getting the most out of yourself as a team and a lot of leinster counties are lacking in that department right now most notably kildare and meath who both enjoy population advantages over the majority of counties

Well done to armagh, deserving winners today, I see the Meath lads are quite pleased, sadly for them its the only pleasure they'll get for the foreseeable.

Of course you can mention Kilkenny footballers.
