I reckon if Waterford beat Wexford it'll be the first time ever no Leinster Senior hurling team will be in an all ireland senior semi. Last time KK not there was 1996. Wexford were Leinster champions that year under the old provincial system which always saw a Leinster team in the All-Ireland hurling semi final. Wondering if Killarney87 or Ballydalane have any idea? Probably have to go back to when clubs last represented their counties. Pretty unprecedented.

I don't think its ever happened. Any year there wasn't a team from Leinster in a semi-final, it was either because they got a bye to the final (which I think could happen any year there wasn't an Ulster team in the senior champions, like 1942), or because the provincial championship finals were treated as AI semi's, which I think would have happened in the late 1890's and early 1900's. I stand open to correction. Marlon_JD (Tipperary) - Posts: 1823 - 23/07/2017 18:28:30 2021917 Link 0 |
Dubs were in the semis that year.

Technically, according to "Gaa Geography", the Leinster champions are in the semi finals :) Flanders (Galway) - Posts: 604 - 23/07/2017 19:06:00 2021944 Link 0 |

Up until 1984 (when for centenary year novelty Antrim were allowed into the semi final) either the Leinster or Munter finals were a de facto all Ireland semi final. It alternated between the two provinces each year. Many times teams got through to the all Ireland final with just two matches, provincial semi and final. Back in the days when Galway played in Munster there were no all Ireland semi finals. All Ireland final was simply Munster v Leinster champions. Well its not Leinsters fault that the winners of Leinster are from Connacht as much as it sticks in my throat they are Leinster champions so geographically speaking no Leinster county but the geography according to Croke Park its Galway. So yes there is a Leinster team in semi finals.

I wanted to type county in the title thread but there are a limited number of characters you can input.

So none of the twelve counties of Leinster has a team in the All-Ireland hurling semi-finals. Yes, probably the first time it's happened all right. Tacaí Liatroma (Leitrim) - Posts: 1008 - 24/07/2017 11:59:57 2022450 Link 0 |
