Sunday sees one game down for decision in the All-Ireland SHC and it should be a hell of battle between these two neighbours with a semi-final place at stake. Will Davy Fitzgerald's charges topple the Deise men? Administrator (None) - Posts: 2274 - 18/07/2017 11:19:41 2018538 Link 0 |

It has the makings of a cracker and could go either way. I'm sure both teams feel they are good enough to win it. It will be interesting to see how Wexford react to the Leinster final defeat. I would give the nod to Waterford as they are more experienced and battle-hardened. Gaillimh_Abu (Galway) - Posts: 996 - 18/07/2017 16:25:24 2018774 Link 0 |
You may have noticed I had experts in italics. Anyway if you watch between now and sunday I would bet most of those so-called experts will tip Waterford. The bookies have Waterford at about 3 to 1 on to win.

For what its worth, when the draw was made, I initially thought Waterford might win it. But I may have been swayed too much by each team's last game out. Looking back on how both teams have done over the entire year to date, I'm back to it being a 50/50. Its a really interesting match. I actually think it's going be a horrible game to watch for a puriest but the sell out crowed and both teams thinking they can win will make it exciting. wexcore (Wexford) - Posts: 740 - 18/07/2017 19:53:01 2018896 Link 0 |

Fancy the outsiders here. Waterford don't look to be going brilliantly this year and I think Derek McGrath has lost a bit of focus from the players. They look to not have the same direction as a couple of years ago. They were very sluggish in eventually shaking off a very tired (understandably) looking Kilkenny Team last day out and never got into any rhythm. Both have beaten Kilkenny which is great for them but I think Wexford are suited to tight pitches for the type of game they play. WildPundit (Tipperary) - Posts: 1709 - 18/07/2017 22:27:50 2018976 Link 0 |
I was at last years game. Not good! Ban (Westmeath) - Posts: 1415 - 18/07/2017 23:02:07 2018992 Link 0 |
Last years game Wexford were terrible and deserved to be beaten out the gate but comparing to this year would not give you a accurate assessment of each teams chances. Waterford I would say are very much at the level of last year and it remains to be seen how much the Wexford team have stepped up in terms of Championship hurling against the top teams. Sunday is a massive test for this Wexford team more so than the Leinster final.

Wish I was still home for this one. Like most I'd make Deise slight favourites but something tells me we're going to win this by 2 points MedwayIrish (Wexford) - Posts: 2324 - 19/07/2017 11:23:00 2019162 Link 0 |
I think we are going to win this, but unfortunately I don't see us winning the semi final. Pinkie (Wexford) - Posts: 4100 - 19/07/2017 11:56:05 2019185 Link 0 |
Funnily enough i would have agreed with you until i looked up the pitch dimensions the two best displays Wexford have produced this year were in salthill and Nowlan park in the league and league quarter final. And both salthill and Nowlan park ( couldnt believe this) are bigger pitches then pairc ui chaoimh.I think the stands give an optical illusion of the pitch been smaller then it actually is. and this is what you call having way to much times on my hands and procrastination of the highest order in work wexcore (Wexford) - Posts: 740 - 19/07/2017 11:59:56 2019191 Link 0 |
Pinkie I don't share your fears on the standard of hurling but when looking at the Waterford team we are heading in the hope that everyone hits form on the day. Galway are way ahead of Waterford bit Waterford beat a better Kilkenny team than what we did - looking forward to the game, I think regardless of sweeper it promises to be a great game.
